Europe has never been thrilled with Israel, from the beginning, mostly due to euro-arab oil politics. That, plus endemic antisemitic attitudes, contribute to relative indifference if not outright hostility to Israel’s existence. This granting of nationhood to palestine would be intended as a potential nail in Israel’s coffin.
