Thank you for that link. I spent many nights sitting on the pier at Somar School studying. It was very calming to see and hear the activities in the Bay and hear the aircraft shooting landings on North Island.

I remember very distinctly the harbor being completely empty of any Naval vessels the day before the Cuban Missile Crisis. I remember it so vividly because the very next morning we all received emergency orders to proceed to various submarines all along the East coast. I went to a boat in Key West.

Wow! What sad but beautiful memories!

Thank you for sharing your memories of dangerous times, and I hope you kept the link so you could watch the ships some more. It’s quite fascinating!

It must have been very eerie to see that harbor devoid of any naval boats whatsoever. I’m so glad you got back safely and I really and truly thank you for your service, spel! :)
