Those tents crammed so close together looks like quite a violation of Fire Prevention Code. I believe the Fire Marshall has police powers in certain situations.

Columbia's leadership have already decreed that since Columbia is private property, local law enforcement has no jurisdiction.

I'll be John Wayne Gacy wishes he knew about this particular loophole.

But the paper clipped cover pages argument just shows authors ignorance.

That’s nuts. Just because it’s private property doesn’t mean the police have no jurisdiction.
So police can’t stop a robbery at Walmart?

I think if the university decides to classify the tent city as a special event then there own rules on fire and life safety would apply and I doubt it would pass any inspection by the university.

Private property doesn’t apply to the fire Marshall.
I’ve seen them chain the doors and kick everyone out of the building and anyone that entered was going to jail.
This was in a walmart in florida

“Columbia’s leadership have already decreed that since Columbia is private property, local law enforcement has no jurisdiction.”

The Fire Department has jurisdiction everywhere. Try that “private property” argument in a public space with them sometime. See what happens.

The President of Columbia is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minouche_Shafik#Personal_life

Egyptian born, with Egyptian, UK, and US citizenship.

It’s easy to see where her loyalties lie. I hope Columbia’s board is taking a good hard look at that.

I think I may have detected a problem.
