dolf Hitler never won a majority in a free and open national election. He never received more than 37% of the vote in a free and open national election, but he argued that 37% represented 75% of 51%, and demanded political power. It was the political calculus by which the Nazi leader disabled, then dismantled, the Weimar Republic. Hitler exploited his 37% to gridlock legislative processes, to cudgel or crush the political opposition, and ultimately to undermine the country’s democratic structures. When Hitler had vowed in court, in September 1930, to destroy democracy through the democratic process, a judge asked, “So, only through constitutional means?” Hitler replied crisply, “Jawohl.”
Hitler exercised his constitutional right to free speech and freedom of assembly to hold rallies across the country and spew invective in all directions—against Bolsheviks, social democrats, immigrants, Jews, even fellow rightwing nationalists. He chided the ruling elites. If God had intended aristocrats to run the country, Hitler said at one rally in fall 1932, “we’d all have been born with monocles.” He vowed to make Germany great again. He promised a Third Reich bigger and better than the previous two.

This reporting is just loaded with leftist phrases.
This “historian” is a liar and buffoon.
Nazis took dictatorial power by force.
Like Democrat totalitarians are doing.
Additional old men became the police in Germany, during WW-I, replacing men who entered the German Army.
After the war, when Hitler’s party was finally launched and running, members of his party replaced the old cops.
So, granted the legistive and other considerations, but slowly taking over the police forces and thereby selectively enforcing laws . . . Hitler gained power over people.
This is coming from Time Magazine who labeled Hitler man of the year in 1938.
Apparently Biden is trying to get Emergency Powers by declaring a Climate Emergency.
When I heard that, the first thing I thought of was Hitler and the Reichstag Fire.
But, I guess Trump is the villain. Somehow.
Unfortunately, it’s not just the Democrats.
Doing what they accuse the opposition of doing.
Hitler and the Nazis became known for their violent fights with the Communists in the streets and their poorly-planned Putsch in the early 20s.
Not coincidentally, the Communist street fighters were called "Antifascists" - Antifa for short - and they had the same flag as our masked marvels today.
German democracy was overthrown by Leftist thugs fighting Communist thugs and only too late did Germany discover that neither side was any good for them.
Read The Gathering Storm by Winston Churchill. It explains many things in detail. Some of the German communists and other factions aligned with the National Socialists. Once Adolf was in power, he killed many of them. There is a quote from Adolf, something like ‘you are no longer useful or necessary.’
Yes. There are many collaborators.
So why is the Time Magazine talking about this? Referring to Trump?
” If God had intended aristocrats to run the country, Hitler said at one rally in fall 1932, “we’d all have been born with monocles.”
LOL !
It's clear that the author doesn't really understand what happened in Germany during that period. He has the data:
...representing 37.3% of the electorate, Hitler commanded the country’s largest political movement. Social democrats trailed with 21%, and the communists with 14%.
The problem with "democracy" there was a problem with the parliamentary implementation in the German government. 37% for the Nazis, 14% for the Communists, totals 51%. That meant that all of the other parties combined could not form a majority government; they had to have the support of one or the other. And the only one thing that the Nazis and the Communists agreed on was that the form of the government had to be changed.
Hence somebody had to bring in poison to the governmental punch, it was only a question of which kind. Article 48 enabled Hindenburg to govern in the absence of a majority in the Reichstag until the latter got its act together. It also enabled Hitler to fill those posts with Nazis under the twin whammy of an emergency condition declared as a result of the Reichstag fire and the Enabling Act that followed. And since those together meant that the Nazis ran the elections, there were no more fair elections.
That last point appears to have escaped the author: if anyone is a Nazi around here it's the people who have corrupted the halls of government with partisans and hijacked the election system. These aren't people who want to make America great again.
Did Hitler use terror tactics like arrests, organized riots, and violence to seize and hold power?
Did he use religion too?

Was Hitler a Christian?
Scholars find the German dictator was more religious than his religion wants to admit

If
you call yourself “Christian” and speak of Jesus as your “Lord and Savior,” you’re usually taken to be a Christian. The exception is Adolph Hitler.
The German dictator would seem to have been Christian, or at least hitting all the marks that Christians of the time would hit—including being murderously anti-Semitic.
But Christianity seems not to want to claim him.
Adolph Hitler c.1923 (illustration)
Hitler was born in 1889 and baptized Catholic.
His mother was devout, and his father less so. At age five, Adolph was confirmed in the family’s local parish in Linz, Austria.
After that, sources for his life get tricky. But to look over the sources is to see a much stronger case than Christianity would like to admit. Hitler was a working artist until age 30, and often did works on Christian subjects.
As I browse through the book Adolf Hitler, the Unknown Artist, he regularly features Christian churches in a way that suggests he viewed them as important, and centers of human life.

Of course. Deliberate effort to equate Trump with Hitler under cover of a spurious history.
It not just Hitler. All would-be tyrants know that democracy is a stepping stone toward Totalitarianism.
For this reason, the word ‘democracy’ was considered a dirty word by the Founding Fathers, a word found nowhere in any of the founding documents.
I believe it was Marx or Lenin who said something to the effect of:
The first step in getting free people to give up their rights and accept being ruled, is to install a Democracy, whereby they are ruled by the majority.
By accepting majority rule, they signal a willingness to be ruled over, and it makes little difference who rules them.
The Democrats understand this - it’s why they chose their party’s name. It’s why they are constantly referring to “our democracy”.
Yep.
