Democrats introduce the STAGE Act, a $1 billion per year ‘cash infusion’ so ‘artists can find out who they are and become themselves’

Oh no! All the losers with the lesbian theater degrees can’t find jobs since they settled on an “education” that had no applicability in the real world! And, what’s worse is that they’re “artists,” so they can’t be expected to work a 9–5, or stifle their creativity with a boring conventional job, even though that’s where the money is.

Fear not though, because here comes Congress to the rescue, with details from an NBC News report today:

Democrats fret it could be curtains for local theaters without federal funds

Four years after it began, Covid-19 is in the rearview mirror for millions of people and hundreds of businesses across the U.S. — but not for some theaters that require federal funding, according to some Democratic lawmakers.

Professional nonprofit theaters haven’t recovered from the pandemic, with dozens of stages set to shutter around the country without urgent infusions of cash. Now, a group of Democrats in Congress says ‘the show must go on’ and is introducing legislation that could keep the curtains from closing.

The Supporting Theater and the Arts to Galvanize the Economy Act — or STAGE Act — would allocate $1 billion annually to invest in the industry, helping community theaters pay rent, employ artists and attract new audiences.

During National Theater Week, Welch, along with Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., and Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, D-Ore., met with Hollywood stars Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Danai Gurira at the Capitol to swell support for the bill.

‘Careers are being built, dreams are being built, you know, where communities are coming together. I grew up a very shy, lonely kid. And, like, I found my people in the theater,’ Ferguson, the ‘Modern Family’ star, said in an interview.

I thought liberals were big supporters of all this stuff. Why are they no longer supporting the people they say are extremely vital to the world?

I understand the desire to knock creative people. They don’t always seem like the most productive folks.

However, I think this is a bit too late for many real artists. Not Hunter Biden, though I don’t consider him to be a real artist. Did he ever starve a day in his life? No, he didn’t.

There are many talented people out there who were really hurt with the lockdowns. Some lost their opportunities. Maybe that’s for the best. I don’t know.

I just think many could’ve used help a couple of years ago.

Perry Como was a barber, and he was fully prepared to go back to being a barber if his singing career didn’t work out.

Current “artists” should follow his example. Learn a trade. Get a job. Practice their art. If they are any good, people will find out and support them. That goes for individual artists as well as local theaters. If they aren’t that good, then they will have at least tried to be an artist and failed without sponging off taxpayers.

By the way: are we so far in the hole in debt that our members of Congress don’t even give a second thought about tossing out a billion dollars? Maybe when you’re $30+ trillion in the hole, what another billion?

In my 50 years as an artist I can say I never accepted any federal funding.

You can’t be an artist without an ego but just because you
have an ego doesn’t mean you are an artist.

Oh, HELL no!

My Dad was an artist, but he didn’t squander his time trying to “make it on his own.” His first full-time job after graduation was in the graphics arts department of Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland. He worked there from the late 1960s until 1985, when he did go over to Geneva, Switzerland with my stepmom to indeed try to “make it on his own.”

When he was unsuccessful at that, he and my stepmom returned to the states a few years later. After being rejected for art-related jobs due to being in his 40s, he went into the real estate biz. I don’t think he really liked it, but he did a lot of good there, and he was an honest agent. He continued doing painting on the side well into retirement, and he even managed to sell a few of them, as far as I know.

His was a life well-lived, and his only government dependency was on Social Security. Rest in Peace, Dad.
