Two jurors who deliberated Nicolae Miu’s fate in the Apple River stabbing trial told FOX 9 the panel of 12 quickly focused on the issue of criminality between intentional and reckless homicide, with little support among jurors that the stabbings were done in self-defense.
Both jurors also questioned whether Miu should have taken the stand, concluding the now 54-year-old man from Prior Lake hurt himself more with his testimony rather than helping his case.

The jurors said 2 or 3 wanted to convict for murder and none thought it was self defense. The jurors were effected by the severity of the wounds, disembowling people. They thought Miu could have left. The other witnesses said Miu hit or slapped the girl. Miu said he pushed her. So the jury thought he started the fighting. The jury thought part of the problem was that most or all of the kids and probably Miu were drunk / intoxicated. Miu's actions afterwards, throwing down the knife and lying to the police did not help him.
IMO it could be self defense, because he was hit by multiple people. I think he was angry at the group calling him names, etc. He must have been angry to kill one person and severely injure another with a 3-inch knife. It was probably manslaughter, but don't agree with the way the prosecutor handled the case and the laws in Wisconsin that he will probably get a long sentence for it.

If you are going to take the stand in your own defence, you got to have your story straight, and without any holes.
If not, they are going to send you up the river without an inner tube.

He deserves a longer sentence from my viewpoint. He didn't
need to stab those kids for what they were doing. His life
wasn't in danger. He did it out of anger.

He hurt his case because he initiated contact first. The law takes away self defense if the person is the first to use force. When he hit that young girl he lost the self defense. They all acted stupid that day. In the video you can see Miu get mad when they called him a molester. That's when he turned around and charged at the kids tube. He says he tripped but I'm not sure about that. He should have kept walking away but he didn't. Now his life is destroyed and a kid is dead. Did he think anything good was going to come out of him holding a knife with a bunch of kids teasing him? Stabbing the girl and the bystander who was trying to break up the argument didn't help his case at all.

I’ve recently checked this case out. I certainly don’t know everything there is to know about it but from what I can see it looks very much like self defense.

IMO he had reason to fear serious harm from those young scumbag punks.

So that's why he went back to his car and returned with a knife?
Hmm, ok.

I don't know....he's a legal immigrant, from a country that still has respectable people and norms...where being an older person brought respect perhaps, and he just could not abide by being disrespected by the younger people...all were drinking....
stupid and ridiculous situation and sadly one guy got killed...now another will sit in prison....

He had the knife in his pocket. Pretty common to carry a Swiss Army Knife in the woods. If he had gone back to his car for a weapon and returned, it would be a much stronger prosecution case.
That is a point that in his culture, kids wouldn’t act disrespectfully like that to an older person.

Good Lord, he lied the entire time about that knife. He
could've just walked away but he didn't. He killed that
teenage boy.
