As I recall, this plane known to us as the Backfire, caused our military to have real headaches because it showed up suddenly as a legitimate supersonic anti-ship aircraft. It had standoff weapons.
It’s current role is similar, but it must be less effective against land targets. I wonder if any Russian pilot has been courageous enough recently to swing the wings into their sweptback position. I think it is primarily a bomb truck now.
