The Talks That Could Have Ended the War in Ukraine
Foreign Affairs ^ | 4/16/24 | Samual Charap and Sergey Radchenko

In the early hours of February 24, 2022, the Russian air force struck targets across Ukraine. At the same time, Moscow’s infantry and armor poured into the country from the north, east, and south. In the days that followed, the Russians attempted to encircle Kyiv.

These were the first days and weeks of an invasion that could well have resulted in Ukraine’s defeat and subjugation by Russia. In retrospect, it seems almost miraculous that it did not.

What happened on the battlefield is relatively well understood. What is less understood is the simultaneous intense diplomacy involving Moscow, Kyiv, and a host of other actors, which could have resulted in a settlement just weeks after the war began.

This is not really news. The Istanbul Peace Settlement was widely known to any who cared to raise their head from the Western media disinfo feeding trough. I posted a number of articles regarding this from April ‘22 on and suffered the full brunt of the Western media stooges attacks.

Unfortunately, those hundreds of thousands of unnecessarily dead Ukrainians and thousands of square miles of Uke territory are forever gone. The hundreds of billions of Western tax dollars have likewise been wasted for no reason whatsoever. They were sacrificed on the altar of failed NATO hegemony in Ukraine.

Even today, the Russians are willing to negotiate. Have the neocons in DC learned anything in this failed from the beginning globalist misadventure? Nope, not a thing. Tens of thousands more Ukrainians must die, all the Uke lands east of the Dnieper will be sacrificed and another $61B American tax dollars pi$$ed away to get Biden to November before he is forced to declare defeat.

The Ukrainian and Russian blood on the hands of those neocons whose support was vital in keeping the unnecessary butchery going will not wash away.

The Zeepers are so damned tiresome. I hate it when they get neocon religion and start commenting out phrases like “Let it be so!” The next most irritating habit they have is using the word “doink” like a 5th grader.

Thank you for sharing this truth. Unfortunately it would not have fit the overall agenda. No corporate money to be made from peace.

You sure got that right! It's certainly not the first time. Right?

At least there seem to be a few voices of sanity in the House, like MTG and Massey, who are threatening Johnson with his seat. Let's hope he gets the message.

Vietnam was not a "globalist misadventure" like the other two. Similar to Korea and the Berlin airlift, it was the containment of international Communism. Yes, it was an incompetently-run war, but defeating the Communist NVA and Viet Cong was a worthwhile goal.

Did you even bother to read the article you posted? It completely debunks the Russian spin that there was an agreement which was only prevented by the interventions of Boris Johnson and the "Neocons." There was no final agreement for the following reasons: This article should put to rest the Russian claims that there was an agreement that was scuttled by western desires to continue the war in order to destroy Russia.

Scoreboard update-

Team Putin said this would be over in 4-6 weeks, over two years ago.

Team Commonsense said this will go on as long as Putin desires or until President Trump floods the world with oil.

Team Commonsense 3,127

Team Putin 0

"Always wondered why it stopped."
It stopped and withdrew back to the Russian speaking area that had declared itself independent of Kyiv because the Russians were fooled into thinking the Minsk Agreement was going to be agreed to.

The fact that this is “Foreign Affairs” is significant.

It means that Regime NeoCons are prepping the “narrative space” for Ukraine defeat. And part of it is going to be that Ukraine made mistakes that caused it to be defeated.

On thing I have changed on.

I thought they were trying to push the final collapse until after Nov.

I now think they want it before Nov , so they can blame Trump and the Repubs, and try to use it in the election - which they are otherwise losing , anyway.

If I’m right, Johnson is going to find out that the Dems are not going to vote enough to get Ukraine aid passed.

We shall see.
