Yep. I had read that the Kansas Senate and House had passed a bill to implement a flat state income tax, and Kelly had vetoed it. So I wrote an email to her office asking why. Somebody on her staff sent me a reply stating something to effect that “Gov. Kelly feels it would disproportionately benefit the highest income earners in the state vs. the lowest income earners. The lowest income earners would only have $50 dollars reduced from their tax liability and the highest earners would have $4,500 dollars reduced from their tax liability”. I also asked what the flat tax rate was, (I hadn’t read the bill), and my question wasn’t answered. I looked at those numbers and I’m incredulous, because ALL wage earners in Kansas would have more money in their pocket. So I just gave up, thinking I can’t reason with these people. Frustrating. The only positive thing she has accomplished in her terms was the elimination of the state sales tax on groceries.
Let’s hope the legislature can override her latest round of vetoes.
