The Soviets prevailed only because the US bankrolled them, which they never paid back, BTW, unlike Britain.
The USSR absorbed massive damage from the German armed forces, which would otherwise have been directed at the UK and, eventually, the USA. The Eastern Front was far more bloody and terrible than the Western Front.
