The Senate on Wednesday afternoon voted in favor of passing a bill reversing the Biden administration's actions mandating states to track and set reduction goals for greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles on highways.
The chamber approved the resolution in a 53-47 vote in which Sens. Kyrsten Sinema, I-Ariz.; Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio; Jon Tester, D-Mont.; and Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., joined every Republican voting in the affirmative. The bill was introduced in February by Sens. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D.; Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va.; and Manchin.
"Few things are more frustrating in government than un-elected bureaucrats asserting authority they don’t have and foisting federal mediocrity on the excellence of states," Cramer said in floor remarks earlier Wednesday.
'Illegal rule'
"The Senate will take up my bipartisan resolution that overturns the Biden administration’s obviously illegal rule that requires state departments of transportation to measure CO2 tailpipe emissions then set declining targets for vehicles traveling on the highway systems of their respective states," he continued.
The resolution is a response to regulations the Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) finalized in November, which the agency said supports President Biden’s "whole-of-government approach" of reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2030.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said at the time that the regulations provide states with the flexibility to set their own climate targets.

“The senate??”
Well, Sinema, Manchin, Tester and Brown are all up for reelection.
Trillions in taxpayer subsidies haven’t made wind and solar power cheaper or better for Americans
Unfortunately, as the huge subsidies show, the claim is wildly deceptive.
Wind and solar energy only produce power when the sun is shining or the wind is blowing. The rest of the time, their electricity is infinitely expensive and a backup system is needed.
Just to pay for the batteries would cost the US five times its current GDP. And it would have to repurchase the batteries when they expire after just 15 years.

Meh...Biden could just ignore them like he does the SCOTUS. He’ll probably just give marching orders to enforce reductions and his sycophant bureaucrats will fall in line.
Well - there are 28 Dem seats up in the 2024 elections...
I had heard several years ago that emissions on a new car(no year given) were so harmless that if the vehicle were run in an enclosed area that the vehicle emissions were relatively harmless. Is there any truth to this?
nice! how many miles per knot do you get?
Manchin is NOT up for reelection. He decided not to run for Senate this year.
Not sure what he IS going to do ... seppuku is too much to hope for.
Here in NYS, we have an arbitrary “burn ban” every year imposed by the DEC (offshoot of the EPA) when it would be most convenient to burn leaves, twigs, etc during lawn clean up in the spring. From Mid March to Mid May. They claim it is to stop wild fires!
1. It’s SATURATED here in upstate NY—rain for the past two weeks.
2. Getting rid of old leaves, branches etc in a controlled burn PREVENTS wild fires.
Once the catalytic converter warms up most of the CO in new cars is converted to harmless CO2 and water vapor. But when the car is cold even new cars are still producing CO.
I once went on a call where our naked “patient” ran out of his house and into his garage and started up a lawn mower. The police had just arrived because he started out by pulling out a gun hidden in his couch and trying to shoot me.
The police sergeant asked if the lawn mower exhaust would kill him. I correctly predicted that he would give himself up long before losing consciousness. But your typical lawn mower probably produces more CO than most newer cars because of incomplete combustion and no catalytic converter.
“Thailand?”
That day was way too funny. That was back in 2005 or 06 IIRC.
lol - that same surprised reaction came to mind reading this.
When is that bass turd going to jail?
LOL!
