Ethan Crumbley’s parents were sentenced to between 10 and 15 years behind bars Tuesday for their son’s 2021 massacre that left four students dead — the first parents convicted in a US mass school shooting.
James and Jennifer Crumbley were handed the prison time by Judge Cheryl Matthews in a Pontiac, Mich., courtroom after they were found guilty on involuntary manslaughter charges at separate trials in March and February, respectively.
The duo are the first parents in the nation’s history to be convicted in relation to a school shooting carried out by their child. The parents faced prison for failing to intervene despite obvious warning signs that their son was troubled and for failing to keep a gun locked away in their home.

Ah yes. These are the people that gave a weapon to their homicidal son who had mental and social difficulties.

From threads during the trial, I suppose most here will support the sentences, but I think it is a bridge way too far.
Did they specifically encourage him to go and kill other students? Did they knowingly provide him with material aid? did they give him maps or suggestions on the best way to do this murder?
Taking one’s son to a gun range is not an illegal activity, as far as I know.
what if they had left the car keys laying around and he took the car to commit a murder. Would they be equally liable?
Sure, they may be bad parents, but that means baby-mommas on the south side of Chicago whose kids do drive by shootings can be prosecuted as well.
Got him a gun instead of mental healthcare. He might have still gone ballistic, but they wouldn’t be sitting in prison.

The little darlings are the protected class nowadays. Our govt does nothing but coddle them and make excuses for their rotten behavior.

I did not follow those threads, but if they knew that kid was problematic and had psychological issues, he’s dealing with, and did not secure their firearms, I have a hard time disagreeing with sentencing based on their failure to secure their firearms.
But I disagree with the conviction on not treating his mental illness, if that is indeed the basis of the other charge.
That opens a Pandora’s Box even Leftists, as dimwitted as they are should recognize as a bridge too far. Too many mentally ill leftist kids with accommodating parents.

Gee, you wonder if they could have done that to Eric Harris’ and Dylan Klebold’s parents following their bloody rampage in Littleton, CO. I recall reading about how Klebold had conversations with his father about how both opposed concealed carry laws and that the younger did not want to attend university in Arizona because that state had such a law.

They failed at parenting big time and it resulted in four kids being killed. They should bear some responsibility, but I’m a little concerned about “involuntary manslaughter.” That might be a bridge too far.
Brick by brick they'll keep chipping away...like they've done everything else to get us to this point.
You understate the seriousness of what happened. A better analogy wouild be what if they gave liquor and the car keys to the boy? So yeah. They are equally liable.
They knew he had mental problems and gave him a handgun and ammunition. It was a really nice one, a Sig I think.
Same thing applies when selling a gun. If you have reason to believe the purchaser would be ineligible to own a weapon then you shouldn’t sell it to said person.
The sentence does seem too harsh though.

If that’s all they got, the convictions should get overturned, I think.
This certainly does feel like Pandora’s box. These parents did do the lazy/stupid/wrong thing at every turn but while they trial said “this is criminal” I don’t think it established when the line from bad parent to criminal was crossed. Seems ripe for a slippery slope to me.
