The California snowpack is at 110% of average in 2024, the state Department of Water Resources (DWR) said on Tuesday, after conducting the annual snow survey.
Officials measured the snow depth at Phillips Station in the Sierra Nevada mountains, recording a depth of 64 inches, which is 113% of the annual average. Measurements from elsewhere in the mountain range were used to calculate the combined average of 110% — a good sign of a healthy water supply.
While some expected a dry winter, especially after the wet 2022-23 winter produced record snowfall in parts of the state, the 2023-24 winter produced heavy rains, nearing record levels in parts of the state, including Los Angeles.

Politicians can see the climate change but politicians are NUTS
Well, I would not have minded a little of that to have come our way for more snowshoeing, lol.
“Biggest drought in 12,000 years”
“Kids will never know snow.”
“We’ll never have rain again.”
Blah, blah, blah, Nature keeps merrily rolling along doing what Nature does.
We aren’t done yet. More snow the next few days in the mountains.
I skied at Homewood and Squaw Valley(Palisades to the woke) last week. Definitely some deep snow . . . but it was beautiful on the Ponderosa pines . . . wow!!!
“Whatever” except “El Nino made a NORMAL winter.”
Gov. Newsom will be crying drought in 3, 2, 1.......
I’m headed to the Washington coast this afternoon, then a leisurely drive down the coast to the Bay Area. I might get walloped with cold and rain. Might see some BIG storms off the Oregon coast which are spectacular.
But there’s no way to store the water. Drought by August!
Record drought= sky is falling.
Record snow = sky is falling
Note that this above average winter comes on the heels of the biggest winter in 70 years, 2022-23.
Newsom called it “extreme weather” implying that it was an anomaly, but then this year we get another above average year...back to back. Amazing all these extremes, huh?
Almost like we’re in a cycle, you know, moving along a curve or something...yeah...kinda feels like that, yuh know! Whutta concept
Nature and climate always seem to take care of themselves
They’ll have to complain about something else I suppose.
Climate always changes. I have to hand it to the left though, coining the word climate change to demonstrate climate change works 100% of the time. Then say it is a bad thing and you have a trillion dollar scam.
I’m in Monterey today on vacation with my wife and two granddaughters. The plan was to head to Yosemite Valley tomorrow for three days. So much for those plans, the f’n blizzard starts tonight! Eight inches of snow, 60 mph winds, 8 degrees. Crap global warming for the entirety of the three days.
Don’t worry all the current drought regulations and restrictions will remain in place, and the reservoirs will be emptied within 2 years or less to save the fish...
I thought snow was going to be a thing of the past ... Al Gore told me so!
That’s too bad. Sorry to hear that. We had several days in the 70s here in North Idaho week before last, then it reverted to normal and now going below normal with this arctic blast headed into the Northwest and then down the coast.
