Three British aid workers have been killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza.
John Chapman, James Henderson and James Kirby were among the seven World Central Kitchen workers killed in Monday's strike, the BBC has learned.
The charity has paused its operations and said the other victims were Australian, Polish, Palestinian and a US-Canadian citizen.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the deaths "appalled" him. Israel said they were killed by an "unintended strike".
Australian national Lalzawmi Frankcom, Polish national Damian Sobol, Palestinian Saif Abu Taha and US-Canadian citizen Jacob Flickinger were among the others killed in the strike.
The team had been leaving the Deir al-Balah warehouse, where it had unloaded food aid, according to the charity.
The convoy was made up of three vehicles, including two that were armoured, which clearly displayed the charity's logo. All three were hit during the strike.
The UK summoned the Israeli ambassador over the deaths - the first time this has happened in 12 years - and Mr Sunak demanded an investigation in a call with Israel's PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

It’s a tough one but they need to be more careful in prosecuting this war.
They must get this by now and the IDF have more experience in this kind of warfare than most forces
I’m not impartial. I want it over and for Israel to be the victor./
Just not stomaching how they’re doing it and the fact that it has gone on now for 6 months
Let us hope for a swift conclusion.
* Maybe I’m not cut out for war
PR disaster? Only if people care. Consder that there are 10-40 Americans still held hostage. When have you last heard abou them?
There was no reason for them to be there. People in Gaza don’t know how to feed their own people? You wanna work in a war zone, you take that chance.
“Three British aid workers have been killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza.John Chapman, James Henderson and James Kirby were among the seven World Central Kitchen workers killed in Monday’s strike, the BBC has learned.”
“Three British aid workers were killed in a USMC Corsair airstrike ,attacking Japanese positions near the city of Shuri, Okinawa. John Chapman, James Henderson and James Kirby were among the seven World Central Kitchen workers killed in Monday’s strike, the BBC has learned. They were operating a food distribution program behind Japanese lines.”
I get that but these headlines are terrible.
Relatives hold vigils daily and pray fo peace in Israel.
Many are also against how the war is being prosecuted.
As I said, maybe i’m not cut out for this or the daily headlines we’re seeing.
That’s a cold way of looking at it, roving.
You also fail to acknowledge the awful headlines it generates.
It’s not going to help in the UK or Australia
Winning the PR battle is important these days especially in a 6 month+ war
The world is going to condemn Israel no matter what. So they need to focus on developing their industry to be self-sufficent for their defense needs because they’re not going to be able to depend on the Americans in the near future.
Are you comparing Hamas to Imperial Japan ?
That is ridiculous in my opinion DR
I suppose you could say they’re a stubborn enemy but that’s about it
i think aid workers should stay out of the war zone. If Israel can’t afford to make any mistakes in the war zone, I think noncombatants shouldn’t present them with opportunity to make one by going in there.
“They will lose a lot of sympathy or good will from this kind of thing. They need to be more careful in prosecuting this war”
WHAT sympathy? WHAT good will? They only get that if they hang their head and accept the hit, conducting only a few small raids to arrest specific participants, like it was a bank robbery. That was an all out act of war.
And “be more careful”? I suspect you have never been in a war. You cannot attack a large enemy force that has embedded into a city and simply “be careful” and thereby never kill any idiots who decide to embed with them. And you cannot elect to simply leave them there to regroup and attack again.
A lot of your posts are appreciated but you are out in left field on this one. It’s almost childish or feminine.
This war will end when Gaza is wiped out and defeated like Berlin or Tokyo were.
It's like going to Nazi Germany or Imperial Japan during WWII to help out with food aid for their civilians.
I agree with you.
You’re right I’ve not been to war or had the experience many have had here
I’m probably not cut out for it =- you can call me a wimp if you want.
But if me as a stoic supporter has concerns you can guarantee others will too and they will turn against Israel
The PR battle is important in 2024. The world is different to 1945
I really wish the WW2 comparisons would stop. It’s patently ridiculous and hugely overestimates the enemy
They’re not Japan for Pete’s sake...
They’re a ragtag bunch with AKs. Cunning and stubborn? Yes but not anywhere near the level of Japan
Bullshit. They have spread misery and death and war on the innocent worldwide for decades... and in the last 25 they have done so with furious intensity.
They need a humiliating WWII style defeat that utterly breaks their hearts and will to resist anymore.
Good riddance. Skank shoulda been home tending her own family and not working logistics for the rapist army.
Now you’re really pushing a moral high road position to justify not attacking hamas and palistinians, when
ALL women hostages held in Gaza are being sexually abused, freed Israeli woman says:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13263387/all-women-hostages-held-Gaza-sexually-abused.html
‘When we arrived in Gaza, the terrorists grabbed my daughter and showed her off to the cheering crowd - boasting they’d stolen a little Israeli girl’:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13252907/neighbours-blood-killed-father-interview-Hamas-hostage-survived-young-children-terrorists-stolen-israeli-girl.html
Sure, just think of the poor aid workers who were supporting these gazans...
I think we have very different views on this...
Comparison to Japan is just ridiculous
The Japs had an air force, factories, a proper military and an entire nation to commandeer in a World War effort which they sustained for years before being nuked.
Hamas have AKs and are a ragtag bunch in comparison.
Yes, they’re cunning in what they do and hide among the civilians and being stubborn too
It’s not easy but the IDF have lots of experience in this kind of warfare and should know to be more careful?
