Three British aid workers killed in Gaza named

Three British aid workers have been killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza.

John Chapman, James Henderson and James Kirby were among the seven World Central Kitchen workers killed in Monday's strike, the BBC has learned.

The charity has paused its operations and said the other victims were Australian, Polish, Palestinian and a US-Canadian citizen.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the deaths "appalled" him. Israel said they were killed by an "unintended strike".

Australian national Lalzawmi Frankcom, Polish national Damian Sobol, Palestinian Saif Abu Taha and US-Canadian citizen Jacob Flickinger were among the others killed in the strike.

The team had been leaving the Deir al-Balah warehouse, where it had unloaded food aid, according to the charity.

The convoy was made up of three vehicles, including two that were armoured, which clearly displayed the charity's logo. All three were hit during the strike.

The UK summoned the Israeli ambassador over the deaths - the first time this has happened in 12 years - and Mr Sunak demanded an investigation in a call with Israel's PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

Unacceptable Israel. What are you doing?

They should not have died. That said, they should not have been there aiding HAMAS in the first place. Let HAMAS and their supporters starve until they surrender or die.

Not at the cost of innocent lives

It is unacceptable

It’s also a PR disaster for Israel

Nonsense. Nobody cares that isn’t already supporting the Arabs in their war against Israel.

Trying to run a soup kitchen in a hot war zone may not be a great idea...

I understand the costs of war but this is a PR disaster

They must get this at some point.

They will lose a lot of sympathy or good will from this kind of thing. They need to be more careful in prosecuting this war

Intentionally targeted. The vandoo was my buddy’s good buddy. I didn’t know him as well, but the reports on the ground are unmistakable.

So you’re still in support of hamas and the palistinians...

Who continue to refuse to return any likely all dead or horribly abused, hostages, unless all their terms are met...

Interesting how I haven’t seen an article talking about how many hamas escorting them, got killed...

No. I just think killing Brit charity workers is not acceptable and is not a good look

I’m not supporting Hamas or the Palis

I’m supportive of Israel generally, it’s right to exist and the prosecution of the war

That doesn’t mean you can’t criticize it

One plus I suppose is they admit it and are not covering it up.

It’s still disgraceful though and will ensure they lose sympathy

What were these paliscumian sympathizers doing in a war zone? You enter a war zone, you take your risks. With all the weapons being found, some IN SHIFA HOSPITAL’S PILLOWS, doctors at hospitals aiding and abetting terrorists, and Gaza civilians aiding and abetting terrorists, I am certain that there is a lot of confusion, mistaken identities, etc. in the maelstrom of an active war zone. Israel will investigate and determine who did what.

No, it’s not unacceptable. These are helpers of Hamas, even though Netanyahu was nice enough to apologize for their deaths. That’s what happens when you blunder into a war zone and help the other side openly.

Opus?

I’m glad they admit it and not covering it up

Killing western aid workers like this will ensure people turn against Israel

It’s not good at all

If you think otherwise you need your head examined

Yes. I understand the costs of war but think about how bad this is and how it looks

The death of the Australian aid worker is getting extensive coverage in Australia. The picture of her blood soaked passport is like a symbol of tragic death. Everyone is appalled.

I’m hoping for a full investigation/inquiry and for this not to happen again

If it does they will lose a lot of sympathy and good will

I support Israel but I’m uneasy about this now 6-month war and have expressed concerns here.

Backpacker calls me a Hamas supporter! Nothing can be further from the truth

It is a very proper charity. No one seems to have anything against them.

One detail which interested me, is that it is being reported that two of the British aid workers were former Royal Marines. An elite special force ... Not a typical background for an aid worker. I do wonder what might be going on.

...and for this not to happen again

I think it is rather naive to think this could not happen again in an active combat zone. Even if you came up with a way to try and identify aid workers, what makes you think Hamas would not outfit terrorists in fake versions of those identification methods and use that camouflage to attack Israelis?

I looked up an old article where the IDF had targeted one ambulance within a convoy. IDF said it had Hamas in it, and showed the intel to other nations. The Palestinians obviously said it was full of civilians. Whatever the case, it didn't seem to put a damper on the IDF clearing out Gaza of terrorists.

From looking at your past posting history on this matter, I think you’re gaslighting people about your impartiality.

Articles claim they were with a food shipment that went to a food warehouse in gaza.

There isn’t any neutral food warehouse in gaza, it was a hamas controlled warehouse, hamas controls everything in gaza, no matter what the aid group will claim.
