That being said, I have a photo of my lovely mother riding a donkey on the streets of Haiti looking at skinny native with a very sympathetic look on her face. Parents went on a Caribbean cruise for their honeymoon, and Haiti was safe enough to be a regular stop.
And Haitians who came over in little boats when I lived in Florida decades ago were mostly hardworking people, doing menial jobs very well. Like most of the rest of the world, Haiti has been on a long slide down since then.
I was at Homestead, then, and the word was that if you saw a Haitian laying in the road, you didn’t stop. They were robbing good Samaritans.
