"The Iowa Department of Natural Resources stated the spill occurred on March 11, after a valve to an above ground storage tank was left open overnight"
Someone left a valve open overnight..
Sounds a bit like sabotage.
Odd, why would they 'permit' a facility to be adjacent or close enough to contaminate miles and miles of waterways?
Meth heads?
I think that river was mentioned in C. J. McCall’s
“Wolf Creek Pass”.
Our food supply in the past three years has been under constant bombardment.
No.
Correction...
C.W. McCall “Four Wheel Drive”
We was screaming through the valley
Where the Nishnabotna flows
Through the mud and crud and cornfields
Where the marijuana grows
Crossed the railroad tracks at Persia
Down the hills and up the dale
Had a CJ-5 with four wheel drive
And Smokey on my tail
Crap! Was afraid this would happen
Between this, the port/bridge and other occurrences it seems like there will be an “unexpected” drop in food crop production this year...
Agree...We ran out of Baby formula?? That’s just plain nuts.
Yep, first, a bridge collapse, then this fertilizer spill, and now a massive data breach @ AT&T affecting 73 million current and former account holders.
LIQUID NITROGEN? I’m not sure how far from the river the spill was but a substantial amount would evaporate (its boiling point is 320 degrees below zero Fahrenheit) quickly before reaching the river. I suspect this alarming talk is VASTLY OVERBLOWN.
“Liquid nitrogen solution”. Some idiot journalist’s way of labeling common liquid fertilizer.
It’s not literally liquid nitrogen.
Not THAT liquid nitrogen...that was my first impression as well.
But no, that would be worthless, it would just boil away and not enter into any organic process....nitrogen being stubbornly inert AS AN ELEMENT.
They meant Liquid fertilizer CONTAINING nitrogen.
“liquid nitrogen solution”
“liquid nitrogen solution”
Translation: Factory Farm waste.
The model created by Cornell and supported by the US government. Contaminating ground water everywhere.
And putting the small farmer out of business.
“liquid nitrogen solution”

Wow. They totally fooled me with that name. Forget my comment above.
Yes, happenstance, accident, chance, serendipity, providence, any one of those. We’ve had an incredible run of this the last few years.
