May or may not be legitimate.

The estimates are all over the place:

A recent study by Mediazona and Meduza, two independent Russian media outlets, suggested it was up to 88,000 as of the end of 2023.

They based their numbers on public obituaries and official inheritance records.

That estimate tallies with the British Ministry of Defence, which estimates that up to 70,000 have died.

The US thinks the figure could be as high as 120,000, while Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky last month suggested it was 180,000.

From the link you provided:

Images of just one section of Moscow’s Tula cemetery, for example, show the numbers of graves have roughly quadrupled between October 2021 and April 2023.

So, some of those numbers would obviously not be from the military in Ukraine as the date includes 5 months worth before the invasion took place. So, there may even be 18 additional months of non-military people dying & buried in that cemetery also. But it is still not proof. Compelling perhaps, but most assuredly not proof, because it remains unknown what the source is of the burials other than speculation. The same holds true for the numbers as well. Estimates & guesstimates by admission of the article itself. The estimates could all be higher than the actual number, or lower than the actual number. we just do not know.

In addition we have no number to compare with the Ukrainian side. But reports seem to indicate that Ukraine has paid the larger price.

But one thing we do know is that Russia held a much larger population size than did Ukraine. Russia could afford to the lose the highest estimate given and still have a superior force than Ukraine. So, the Canadian is still mistaken that the Russian losses have impacted Russia's superiority in this conflict. The conflict has taken its toll on Ukraine far more than it has on Russia.

I serious doubt that the Russian soldiers had to resort to shovels either.

In fact, I see the increase in production of the glide rockets, as an indication that Russia is ready to step up the level of raining destruction down upon the citizens of Ukraine, in perhaps a gambit for the US to come clean about what they actual knew about the terrorist attack. If they don't provide it then the Ukrainian civilians will become legitimate targets in response as far as the Russians are concerned, just like the Israelis are currently doing with Hamas. Though the Israelis say they are trying to not target civilians. at best, Russia will try to target infrastructure that will seriously impact life negatively for the citizens in Kyiv. By that I'm speaking about electricity generation facilities.

“”””I serious doubt that the Russian soldiers had to resort to shovels either.””””

A unit was believed to have had to make an attack without artillery support using only their firearms and small weapons and grenades and the combat shovel that Russians use in close combat.

“In late February, reservists described being ordered to assault a Ukrainian position “armed with only ‘firearms and shovels’”
