If there is a magic way to stop climate change from wreaking havoc on Florida, reverse sea-level rise and lower the kind of scalding summer temperatures Miami saw last year, lawmakers may have figured it out.
It’s called denial.
It hasn’t worked in past decades. A 2023 report by scientists, published in the journal Bioscience, warned that inaction to reduce carbon emissions is driving the planet toward “dangerous instability.” (The highest Earth temperature ever recorded happened last July).
Apparently, the Republican-dominated Legislature’s plan on how to address climate change in Florida before it’s too late is to hit the “delete” button — literally.
House Bill 1645 is reminiscent of the days when then-Gov. Rick Scott’s administration stopped state workers from using “climate change” in their official communication. The new legislation, approved in the 2024 session, removes most mentions of the term from state law, among other things.
This legislation only steers Florida toward keeping its reliance on fossil fuels.
The bill also bans offshore windmills. Florida doesn’t attract that kind of renewable energy today because of its lower wind speeds, but that could change as technology evolves. Critics worry the ban could scare innovation away from the state in the future, the Times/Herald Tallahassee Bureau reported.
The climate is changing and negative consequences are already here. Last summer, Miami set 10 daily temperature records and 27 daily heat index records, the Herald reported.
Deleting the words “climate change” might make it easier for lawmakers to escape accountability. But it makes it no easier for South Florida to deal with its very real impacts.

“...reverse sea-level rise...”
So, where exactly has the sea level risen?
There is no money in going after China and India. Besides the Chinese and Indians are too smart to fall for their BS. The same is not true for the United States. Not only did they fall for their BS, they allowed their Country to be destroyed by it. Now the Goverment[s] is going after farmers that produce food.
Thanks. I’ll pass this on to the girls. They probably know it.
Sea level rise huh.
How much beachfront property has been lost. How many coastal cities are swamped?
I predict there will be multiple terrorist attacks on the US before any of Obama’s waterfront mansions are flooded.
IF this keeps up, Florida might get hot in the summer and be hit by hurricanes.
On occasion, Florida gets wind that’s plenty strong enough for windmills. And climate change makes hurricanes more frequent. Oh… wait a minute. Well, it doesn’t make them more frequent, but it makes them stronger. Oh… wait a minute /s
There is absolutely no, sea level rise, nowhere has it written outside the margin of error.
Hottest day in world history? Impossible claim. The Miami Hit rag sounds like a national socialist propaganda machine.
Male bovine fecal matter!
“As climate change makes Florida boil”
Ugh what a load of BS
In the words of the immortal Lily von Schtupp, this is BOOL-SHEET.
lol. It’s crap.
Scalding. Boiling. Searing. Wow. Sounds serious. I never knew Florida got hat in summer.....
I live in Daytona. Last year, I stopped wearing jeans or jackets mid-February and was swimming in the pool early March. Still wearing them to walk dogs this last week. High right now is 76. Still not warm enough to go in the pool. (Without using the heater in the pool, I rely on the air to warm it. I want it at least 76 before I jump in .. and that means that if the overnight lows get too cold, it is going to be a long time before I can use it.) Current pool temp is 69. Doubt I will be able to use it prior to tax day, especially considering highs next weekend are forecasted to be in the 60’s
Arguing “Climate Change” with Chicken Little is a pointless exercise. The 500th example of false “Climate Change” prediction dates will pass, and these cultists will never notice nor admit their complete ignorance and foolishness. Fraud is ultimately its own punishment, and that describes these idiots. Remember “the sky is falling!”
Man made climate change is a lie.
No policy should be made based on that lie.
I lived in Alabama a few years in the mid-60s and visited Florida often. You know something? They BOTH got pretty hot. Regularly.
However, writing from Arizona (my home state since 1970), the only thing that makes Arizona hotter now is “concrete & asphalt”! If I visit the city I grew up in, it IS hotter. But 20 miles away, the summers are just like they were in 1970.
So yeah...”unscientific claptrap”. If you collect bad data, you get bad results. And if the 45 years since I got a degree in biology have taught me anything, it is that “scientists” get the results they are paid to get.
REAL scientists don’t, but they aren’t even 10% of what passes for scientists now!
Semi tropical locals are hot in the summer?
