Julian Assange wins temporary reprieve from extradition as U.K. court asks U.S. for assurances

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was given permission by the High Court in London on Tuesday, to take his challenge against extradition to the United States on espionage charges to a new hearing.

The court ruled that Assange could pursue his appeal at a full hearing, unless the U.S. provided “satisfactory assurances” on the questions of whether he was able to rely on the First Amendment of the Constitution and whether he could be subject to the death penalty. It added that he should not be prejudiced at trial or sentencing “by reason of his nationality.”

“If those assurances are not given, then leave to appeal will be given and there will then be an appeal hearing,” the ruling said. “If assurances are given then the parties will have a further opportunity to make representations.” A further hearing on May 20, will be held to “decide if the assurances are satisfactory, and to make a final decision on leave to appeal.”

At this point, would you believe *any* "assurances" from this bunch in DC?

Given several hundred being detained in jails for 3 years without trial, or the lawfare against the regime's primary political opponent, I wouldn't.

I have no firm opinion one way or another about Assange, except the same bunch after him are the same bunch that let slide charges against a scumbag who had classified documents in a box in the garage (but that's different, the garage was locked dontcha know).

Oh, that’s a relief. They want assurances he would be kept in a cage for the rest of his natural life rather than executing him for doing the same thing the NYT, Washington Post, and CNN have done.

He embarrassed DC. Hell, HE is the reason we know about the pizza perverts, Hillary’s “public position and private position” speech, the Podesta perverts, the CIA being able to make ayber crimes and hack look like they came from any country they chose, the CIA origins of ISIS, the massive domestic spying, etc.

He’s a hero.

Assange MUST be punished, not because of strategic information that was posted, nor sources & methods stuff. The leaks that compromised all the shady dealings, including (and particularly) the political stuff, is the reason that he has to be made an example of.

Almost nothing from the Clinton/DNC hack was state secrets. It was all politically embarrassing. This is why Seth Rich had to be killed. They didn’t even take his wallet for a reason. It wasn’t a mistake. It was to send a message.

What espionage? Assange published info that he was provided. He signed no secrecy agreement and had no security clearance.

(Seth Rich)

Hey now, Seth Rich got a really nice memorial bike rack. If you get a small ladder, you might be able to read the memorial plaque. (hat tip to Nully for the pic)

As I recall, the Democratic National Committee didn't offer a reward for finding Seth Rich's killer(s), like Wikileaks did. However, they did spring for a really nice set of bike racks. And a small commemorative plaque.

This is why Seth Rich had to be killed.

Tucker Carlson interviewed Assange recently and specifically asked him if Seth was the source of the Hillary emails.

Even after everything he's been through, Assange said he would never reveal his sources. You have to admire that kind of integrity.

From what I understood he did publish secret documents no matter what the content. He can stay in his little prison from now on for all I care.
