Angela Chao, the billionaire sister-in-law of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, was drunk when she accidentally reversed her Tesla into a pond on a Texas ranch and died last month, according to police.
The revelation was detailed in a report released Wednesday by the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, which said Chao’s blood alcohol level was nearly three times the state’s legal limit when she backed her car into the pond while making a three-point turn.
The sheriff’s office investigation determined Chao’s Feb. 10 death was “an unfortunate accident,” according to the report.

Too drunk to check the back-up camera in that big Tesla she was driving? We all know that people shouldn’t drive drunk. Some people just shouldn’t be allowed to drive at all.

Local police decided in minutes it was just an unfortunate accident. Uh-huh. Where’s Columbo when you need him? Was the rich hubby planning for a cheap divorce, perhaps? Look at what it cost Bezos to unhitch.
If (and that’s a big if) the story we’re being told is true, it’s just another sad example of a drunk person driving when he/she certainly doesn’t have to.
Call Uber. Call Lyft. Spend a few dollars. It’s cheap insurance.
She may have been drunk, and I love Musk, but no way do I get into a car whose main controls are through software and a giant frigging iPad. As bad as Boing is, it’s no computer game. Close, but not yet.
