Comer throws in the towel on Biden Impeachment

House Oversight and Accountability Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) suggested the impeachment vote against President Biden may not be the “best path” and said he instead thinks criminal referrals will be the way to go.

“I believe that the best path to accountability is criminal referrals,” Comer told Newsmax hosts Thursday.

The Oversight Committee held a hearing Wednesday on the impeachment inquiry into Biden. Democrats pressured Republicans to identify the criminal conduct underlying their probe, as doubts rise about the future of the investigation into the president’s business dealings.

Comer argued in the interview that “real accountability” for Biden now looks like “providing real criminal referrals to the Department of Justice,” because the Democratic-controlled Senate would likely table any impeachment into Biden “like they’re gonna do with the Merrick Garland impeachment.”

“”The impeachment hearings provided the opportunity for exposure.””

It they accomplished that much, that’s good. I’m for criminal referral....Navarro checked in for his jail sentence in FL for CONTEMPT OF CONGRESS. What a farce...

Did they ever issue a subpoena for Hunter? There was an empty chair at the table for him last week but I don’t think he was subpoened....If not, they should and then have Navarro’s conviction as precedence when he thumbs his nose at them..AGAIN..

Yeah, Marry Garlic will be right on that.

The only reason to want a Republican House majority is that there are no investigations into Trump. Beyond that it really doesn’t matter who holds power.

You can’t do criminal referals on a sitting president, that is what impeachment is for. That is the only way to legally hold a president accountable for illegal activity

Instead of spinning their wheels on this joke, they should have started impeachment hearings on Biden’s illegal border not to mention the illegal giveaway of money for student debt forgiveness, ignoring a ruling from the Supreme Court.

You can impeach a ham sandwich, but what’s the point?

They’d have to have 100% of the Republican caucus on board with zero defections...and the resignations only made this far less likely.

The hearings were also very unfocused with people more interested in grandstanding vs. focusing on a specific issue - the media has continued to just report it was a total circus with ‘no evidence found’.

As for these “criminal referrals” - also pointless until and unless we get a better Justice Department.

They are trying to lose the House on purpose.

Now watch them screw up a good chance of taking the Senate. Watch for Graham.

Trump is their target too.

Why does he bother to fight when, as usual, they pull out the white flags and run away.

Did anyone really think that a President would be impeached over a case of corruption? The Republicans walked right up to the line of doing so when they realized that to do so would open a Pandora’s box of mutual political destruction that would bite 90% of both Party’s butts. The only one they would impeach for corruption would be Trump if they could figure a way to do it.

“Did they ever issue a subpoena for Hunter? There was an empty chair at the table for him last week but I don’t think he was subpoened.”

Yes, Hunter Biden was subpoenaed. There was some wrangling about whether he’d appear and under what terms. In the end, though, he showed up and was questioned by the House committee for more than six hours. https://www.usnews.com/news/politics/articles/2024-02-29/takeaways-from-hunter-bidens-combative-deposition-with-republican-lawmakers

Navarro never appeared. His complete refusal made it easy to hold him in contempt.

With Buck and Gallagher “resigning” Comer knows that the GOP leadership time is limited as more may resign. He at least wants to do something. Send the criminal referrals to Garland and hammer it home in the media every single day that he does nothing with it to protect Biden
