Haven’t been to a brick and mortar electronics store for so long, I can’t remember the last time. And now without Bluray and physical media even that incentive is gone.

Last time it was already starting to feel like how Fry’s did in the end, low stock and a ghost town. More employees than customers.

i’ve given up on buying almost anything at BB ...

my last attempt was looking at a 4K OLED TV, kinda on the spur of the moment b4 doing research ... the sales liar kid spun lots of lies about an “open box” TV on display, but turns out after wasting a ton of my time that there was no actual box, the remote control was “lost”, and the “open box” TV was actually a floor display model with a ton of hours on it ... NEVER AGAIN, BEST BUY!

i still buy SD cards and thumbdrives from BB though, because i’ve found that almost all SD cards and thumb drives sold on amazon are counterfeit ... they seem OK at first, but after a few seconds of a test transfer, the transfer rate drops off by several orders of magnitude ... many simply crap out and refuse to work at all after a few days ...

Best Buy has 1,000+ stores in the U.S. The report reads to me like some minimal housekeeping.

Bummer. Bought a sweet tuner-amp there for less money than I paid for my old one 20 years ago.

I haven’t noticed Amazon having better prices than Best Buy. But when I go in to their stores they are filthy and disorganized.

A business model that was built upon the fact that electronic equipment was unfamiliar to most Americans and so they needed help and guidance to understand it. For the most part this is moot for most of the public.

That’s actually where Circuit City had the big advantage. They had commissioned sales reps that would show you all the options and explain things. You went to Best Buy when you just wanted something fast, get in and out. Circuit City doomed themselves with the horrid Divx system going way out of their business model with Carmax.

Open-box products can also be floor models that the store has used to show the item off to customers. These can be a risky buy, as they’ve probably seen a lot of use. They may have never left the store, but all-day demoing from random customers adds up, and can make the items more prone to failure. If the open-box item you’re looking at is a floor model, you may want to reconsider.

Yep. Best Buy's biggest problem is that there's just too many of them.

I love Best Buy. They will price-match anything off Amazon. Typically, they're pricing software is set up to automatically mirror Amazon's prices.

If I'm buying a new TV, I'll buy it from Best Buy as opposed to hoping it gets delivered by Amazon.

Additionally, they've got a club membership which has payed for itself over and over. It offers free labor and free replacement on pretty much anything you buy. I brought my son's computer in to get fixed. I bought it long before I bought the membership and they still fixed it for free.

When looking for a new laptop a Best Buy sales person actually told me “if you really want that one, wait a month if you can, I know it’s going on sale in a month”.

Their “geek squad” desk (at that store) is so good they turn away customers because they do not have enough geek squad staff.

The company cited consumer spending habits

Is this a polite way of saying they are closing stores in areas where people are walking out of the store without paying for the merchandise?
