Hurt by tightened U.S. restrictions, decaying domestic production, a weak post-COVID-19 tourism industry and indifference from its allies, the island is living through its worst economic days since the collapse of the Soviet Union more than three decades ago.

The U.S loosened for the past 3 years under Biden. Russia is distracted by their proxy war with Biden, and nobody in their right mind is interested in Cuba for "tourism". Bottom line, socialism/communism destroyed the country. If it were not for Castro, Cuba would be a thriving tourist destination that would make the bahamas blush.

If Cuba ever does transition to a market economy, it’s occurred to me that investing in land and tourism opportunities there would be a _tremendous_ investment opportunity. South Florida is out of room (the Everglades kind of limiting what they can do down there), so I could see snowbirds flocking to the Cuban coast by the millions.
