Nobody, to my knowledge, has ever accused Rep. Ilhan Omar of being a nationalist. But if her recently surfaced comments about Somalia are any indication, she is, in fact, an ardent one — just not for the nation of America.
A few months ago, controversy broke out surrounding comments Omar made during a speech about Somalia (delivered to a predominantly Somalian crowd in Minneapolis): “We are people of brotherhood, people of blood, people who know themselves to be Somalis, to be Muslims,” Omar thundered, according to the English-translation subtitles. “We are a gifted set of individuals with a patriotic spirit that acknowledges our homeland and strives to protect it.” In a shockingly candid admission, Omar openly bragged to the crowd about her ambition to serve the interests of a foreign nation while ostensibly representing American voters in the U.S. government: “The U.S. government will do what we tell the U.S. government to do,” she boasted. “That is the confidence we need to have as Somalis.… For as long as I am in Congress, no one will take over the seas belonging to the nation of Somalia and the United States will not support others who seek to steal from us.”
“Us,” of course, did not refer to the United States. No serious observer of politics could ever imagine the congresswoman describing America in such terms.

Islam had nearly zero input into how we came upon this path.
In every melting pot, there is slag. The useless, undesireable, unyielding leftovers of the process of preparing a strong alloy. It MUST be removed and discarded and rejected before it is allowed to destroy the strength of the final product. Ilhan Omar is the perfect example. And yet, she is allowed to stay and is welcomed. Now we see the result.
There is no ‘melting pot’ any longer.
They abandoned the “melting pot” anology a month time ago.
30 years ago it became the “mosaic” made of tribes, to discourage integration by minorities.
Somehow “30 years” became “a month” due to quick correction.

The me!ting pot also worked when we insisted that immigrants assimilated into our culture and way of life. Once we stopped requiring assimilation; it was all over.
Our politicians have turned the melting pot into a chamber pot.
A perfect analogy; the intent is balkanization and erosion of social unity in order to dilute the power of the people. Can’t have uppity middle class folks running around all over the place, for crying out loud.
Yes, what we are seeing from Ilhan Omar now has pretty much been visible sometime ago. Best thing to do would be to send people like that back to the hole they came out out of unless they can show some real honest American spirit to better themselves & their country. Haven’t seen any of that in this woman since she came here. Guessing she just doesn’t understand about American values, but we understand her & others like her pretty well. Until things change, she doesn’t belong in our government.
It’s not really a “melting pot” if they hate us and won’t assimilate.
Our choices are:
—Acknowledge that she is an American and indict her for treason
—Deport her
I am good with either one.
That was the key. The metaphor of the melting pot depended explicitly on newcomers forsaking their foreign allegiance and adopting a new loyalty to America and American ways. For generations, this was reinforced by the American culture and especially the education of the next generation. That’s how immigrants became Americans. Since the Left destroyed public education, that crucial function has been disabled.

Guess who the tax-paid American Congressman is taking her orders from?

The melting pot worked when immigrants assimilated. My grandparents who came over from the old country, were proud to be Americans.
These days, what with democrat race baiting, it doesn’t.
If all races inter-marry it will eliminate all diversity.
