A phrase associated with President Harry S. Truman, “The Buck Stops Here” refers to making the important decisions, taking accountability, and getting the job done.
To quote Truman:
You know, it's easy for the Monday morning quarterback to say what the coach should have done, after the game is over. But when the decision is up before you -- and on my desk I have a motto which says The Buck Stops Here' -- the decision has to be made.
Another Buck recently stopped in northern Colorado, specifically U.S. House Rep. Ken Buck, who a few months after announcing that he would not seek reelection after serving his fifth and current House term, last week announced his abrupt resignation at the end of the following week.
He certainly made his decision. But to what end?

There is rampant speculation as to why and what consequences will result, intentional or unintentional. This is not a one-off event. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, after unceremoniously losing the Speaker’s gavel, promptly resigned from Congress.
McCarthy’s resignation created the need for a special election to be held in May, further diluting an already thin GOP House margin. Given that both Buck and McCarthy won reelection by about a two to one margin over their Democrat opponents, their districts appear safely red.
But we are talking California and Colorado, two blue states, with Democrats eager to grab control of the House, where election chicanery could turn these safely red districts blue.
Rep. Buck is not my congressional representative and I have never met him, but as I live in and follow Colorado state politics, I will offer my own ideas of what Buck’s surprise exit means for Colorado, Congress, and dare I say it, liberty versus tyranny.

I think he was bought off.
“The Buck Stops in Northern Colorado: Why did Trump-hating Colorado Rep. Ken Buck resign his congressional seat so suddenly?”
Buck was a staunch lifelong conservative until suddenly he wasn’t ... i have no doubt whatsoever that he was extorted with some kind of damaging video/audio/documents ...
I think he is compromised in a big way.
“But we are talking California and Colorado, two blue states, with Democrats eager to grab control of the House, where election chicanery could turn these safely red districts blue.”
Buck is RINO scum, a once-upon-a-time conservative who deperately watns to become the next Joe “Manslaughter” Scarborough or Joe Walsh — an ex-Republican House politician who runs hysterically and insanely to the left in order to suck up to the tribe of media puppetmasters for the purpose of gainful employment with them.
Even so, the above quote is 99.9% ludicrous.
Squish McCarthy’s old district in California should have literally a 0% chance of electing a Democrat since 2 Republicans should be the only ones making the runoff.
The chance of CO-4 flipping would be in November and not in the special election, and would perhaps happen only if Lauren Boebert wins the primary. Which seems unlikely, despite her assertions to the contrary.
And even THEN the seat gets flipped only if the self-righteous holier than thou “conservatives” — like some of the purists on this site — abandon her and vote for the Democrat so they can smugly feel good about electing a 100% clean Democrat (LOL) instead of an icky, “tainted” conservative Republican.
It’s the Boebert connection. Sabotaging Boebert.
Maybe he received a large payoff or offered a substantial lobbyist job worth millions if he resigned now.

I saw one report, never repeated or confirmed, that he had leukemia. That would be a good reason, if true, but I have no reason to believe it.
RINO invertebrate ping to you
I say he was given a juicy offer, like you suggest. The writer here says he did it to spite Boebert. I’m less than persuaded of that.
A la Godfather’s offer. I like your “lead or silver” choices. Hadn’t heard it before.
well my mothers scumbag of a brother, magically had MS during his legal troubles which magically went away once he got released from the can.
His plan to get “compassionate” treatment from the DOJ failed and he wound up getting placed in a nasty medical federal prison facility.
He would have been better off just playing the card he was dealt and would have gotten placed in a low security satellite camp instead.
I think he would admit that if true. To not admit it invites speculation and makes him look like a saboteur (which he is).
Was he caught with a dead girl or a live boy in his bed?
He is a minion from the Cheney orbit. Had a lot of GOPe contacts in Wyoming. Was happy to let the prosecution of Trump go forward and “let the courts take their course”. Thinks 2020 was not stolen.
He’s trash.
Dishonorable person not to fulfill his obligation to the people that voted for him. He’s trying to grandstand to draw attention to himself.
This is a good post; it raises good questions, I think.
I’m going to guess that Ken Buck just got in too deep politically to make his personal life work.
Trump lovers don’t like him. Democrats don’t like him because he is a Republican. He has family. He has a financial life. He has to live somewhere. He may have other community interests that are important to him.
I’m guessing he just got tired of political fighting that wasn’t making his own personal life any better. He got older, tireder, and ready to go home.
Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
Buck was given an offer he couldn’t refuse.
