SpaceX is building a network of hundreds of spy satellites under a classified contract with a U.S. intelligence agency, five sources familiar with the program said, demonstrating deepening ties between billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk's space company and national security agencies.

The network is being built by SpaceX's Starshield business unit under a $1.8 billion contract signed in 2021 with the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), an intelligence agency that manages spy satellites, the sources said.

Musk is in a funny situation. There is more than one vital DOD program working out within SpaceX. The DOD (and the secret squirrel guys) absolutely needs the huge launch capacity and timely deployment ability of “Starship”.

At the same time, the rest of the FedGov is openly harassing SpaceX, as in, for one, limiting the rate at which they can do R&D.

These are contradictory policies of course, which is not unusual.

The “deep state” isn’t a monolithic, centrally controlled entity, it is a (bubbled) society of more or less similar socio-cultural views.

BS....Rueters actually hates Musk. Just take a loot at their previous SpaceX and Musk coverage.

They just want to turn up the heat on Musk with everybody.

Musk denied Ukraine the ability to use the network for drones, in case you missed that.

Unfortunately, after paying $40 billion for a $10 billion business, I do not think Twitter-X can ever break even.

Musk is smarter than the average entrepreneur. He's building an X holding company, of which Twitter will be a portion. X will have many components including Tesla components like AI, robotics, neural chipmaking, and energy utilities. People who think of the Twitter/X portion are missing the big picture, which is a site to process financing like PayPal which he built. His energy division of Tesla will soon outpace vehicle manufacturing as a primary income source. He's not really interested in selling cars for the future, that's only to achieve creating a taxi service.

How has Musk bashed America (other than for the reasons we all have lately complained re: the Leftist/Woke/Marxist takeover it)?

I’ve been spied on, hunted & photographed, phone tapped ever since I left NSA - get used to it.

What you do not seem to understand is that praise is expected, or you do not do business in China.

“get used to it.”

No...

Please post the news item where Ukraine (Not Russia) can use starlink.

Sorry Russia was mentioned using Starlink in passing in one of the many posts on this site, and it several YT videos.

There is no technical reason they cannot. The Russian just need to do something like spoof a UKR user to get on - should not be hard.

UKR has been using Starlink since the end of 2022, so there should be older articles about this - the Musk tried to halt it, but US Pentagon restored it as did Musk later.

I don’t think you understand how starlink works. They can control ALL the downlinks. So they just turn off a region. When the satellite flies over a particular region, it will “drop” any comms. You can spoof all day long - won’t help

Whatever - the Russian still use it. Its ‘on’ over UKR and the Russian are there - so easy access - I’m sure they captured more than one unit - there are even photos I’ve seen taken by Russians using the links.

You don’t seem to understand.

1) Starlink access is based on where the satellite happens to be.
2) Starling does not ENABLE Russia. See https://www.starlink.com/map
3) The question was - does starlink enable the Ukraine? Yes.
4) COULD a russian unit use starlink (assuming they had captured one or acquired one) outside of Ukraine? No. Inside Ukraine? YES
5) Apparently you think starlink should be able to tell who the user is and stop them. That’s not possible.
6) Please stop tyour Musk bashing - it’s not factual.
