The reviews for Disney-owned FX’s new hit miniseries “Shōgun” have been absolutely glowing.
That is, apart from one notable exception.
The series, based on a 1975 novel by James Clavell, follows the story of an English explorer in the 1500s who finds himself smack-dab in the middle of an intense political conflict unfolding in the Japanese empire.
Though many seem to be enjoying the show, one critic — writer William Spivey — felt it was failing for one major reason: There is no black representation.
The article, which originated as a blog on Medium, has received some seriously harsh criticism, to say the least.
The general public appears to be getting sick of diversity and inclusion being placed above accurate historical storytelling.

I think if you go to the home islands of Japan now, you will find minorities are under represented across the board.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
And if I was a native Japanese citizen living there I’d be praying night and day that the minorities already there get deported tout suite.
Some people need a perpetual grievance.......just seems to be the same ethnicity most of the time.
GLAD I GOT MY EARLY EDUCATION IN A ONE ROOM SCHOOL
This 21st century Neo-Marxism, based in DC, NY and LA is a cancer on the world
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
BINGO! A more factual statement has never been posted on this board!
Apparently Japan realized some time ago what is bad for their country and kept it hat way.
In fact, the whole failed ideology of Karl Marx and Frederich Engels is satanic and unholy. It needs to be sent back to hell where it belongs.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Unnecessary to send it back because the spread of that evil ideology is now turning planet Earth itself into a living hell!
That’s because after having occupied a CONTINENT with almost UNLIMITED RESOURCES for thousands of years, they (exclusive of the Egyptians) never even managed to invent the wheel.
Never invented any technology (even on a primitive level), lived in mud/animal shit huts at the best, and sold their fellow tribesmen into Arab/European slavery for glass beads and other such trinkets.
Says a lot for the DARK CONTINENT doesn’t it!
“...feel better if the story were renamed SHO ‘NUFF?”
</guffaw>
Best laugh of the day!
I wonder how long the writer searched, hoping and praying that he could find one person holding this ridiculous opinion before writing an article pretending to be shocked that he found one person holding this ridiculous opinion.
If there are 350 million people in the country, we can assume that at least 10 of them are insane, so how about we stop searching for one ridiculous example, which is what the left does to us.
“...you will find minorities are under represented across the board...”
That’s why they’re ***minorities***, I guess.
One of the major premises was Portugal was attempting to prevent trade between Japan and other nations.
so lucky 1500s Japan then.
Even Downton Abbey had a suggested romantic relationship between a young white female aristocrat and a Black male, in the early 1920s.
Until the 1950s, the Black population of London was never more than 1%-3%.
In fact, from 1850 to 1950, the Black population in London probably went down to 1%, because of the end of the African slave trade, plus stricter immigration laws.
I won't spoil it but the ending to episode 4 made me laugh. And I don't mean this in a cynical way, it was very very good! But for viewers who want to see Sho Nuff watch Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon!
Sho Nuff
We need height challenged Samurai!
Didn’t they already make this show, with Richard Chamberlain?
They did already make it. It was in the early 1980’s.
what this moron say the same if they remade Zulu and had white people and asians mixed into the Zulu tribe?
what idiots.
Nearly all scientists are black in movies now also. And usually the only happy couples presented are gay.
Nonwhite people either ?
