Trump endorses Barrasso as next Senate GOP whip

Former President Trump endorsed Sen. John Barrasso to become the next Senate Republican whip, saying the Wyoming lawmaker “will never let you down.”

“John Barrasso is a fantastic Senator for the incredible people of Wyoming,” Trump said in a Thursday evening post on Truth Social.

“He is running to be the next Republican Whip for the Senate Republican Conference, a very important job, to ensure we pass and enact Strong Legislation that puts America First,” Trump added. “I know John very well — he will never let you down.”

Barrasso, the Senate Republican Conference chair, is running unopposed for the whip position. He said last week he’d already secured enough votes to succeed Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), who is running to replace Sen. Mitch McConnell (Ky.) as Senate Republican Leader.

Trump's endorsements still SUCK...

I bet he endorses Sen. John Cornyn for leader.

Why would you announce who you want for whip before you announce who you want for leader?

If I were Trump I would be naming someone like Ron Johnson, Josh Hawley, or Rand Paul as who should be leader NOW, and trying to get McConnell swiftboated ASAP. There are many more legislative battles between now and the end of Congress still to fight this term.

Trump is trying to impress someone, but I am not sure who. Not me.

Barrasso is running unopposed for the position. He is a rino but Trump currying favor with the inevitable winner is ugly but tactical. The real battle is leader if he gets behind Thune or Cornyn we will know he still feels obliged to placate the GOPe.

Another poor pick by Trump. Barrasso is my senator and I didn’t vote for him and never will. I sent him a message after the 2020 election steal and got back the most wishy washy “answer” that basically confirmed he was part of the deep state. His nose has been so far up McConnell’s rear that he can’t see what is right. Bad choice.

Until we give him what is needed in both the House & Senate he has to do what is necessary to get their support when he becomes President.

We, the voters, are the ones failing Trump, not the other way around.

He needs to stop listening to the GOP-e and start listening to advice from Jordan, Gantz and Rand Paul.

His horrendous picks, devoid of adherence to our Constitution, is the reason that I am still voting for RDS in the Pa primary.

I think Trump had all of it, 2 of the 4 years he was POTUS

Saying the voters are the problem for not giving Trump what he needs is like saying the wife is not giving her husband what he needs after he beats her

As others have said Trump’s record for nominating people for positions in his presidency was spotty at best

Trump’s endorsements and appointments have been horrible. He and his advisors never learn. They are using him and will be wreaking havoc long after he he’s gone.

1. Trump endorses RINOs.
2. They betray him (and America).
3. Then he’ll call them funny names.
4. Then he’ll endorse more RINOs.
5. Wash, rinse and repeat.

“Why would you announce who you want for whip before you announce who you want for leader?”

The All-Important Trump Winning Percentage (AITWP).

Barrasso is a literal lock, it’s a guaranteed +1 in the W column.

However, no way will the GOP Senate caucus allow anything resembling a conservative to become minority leader. Therefore endorsing one means the AITWP takes a hit when the guy inevitably loses to a RINO like Cornyn or Thune.

A REAL “kingmaker” does the right thing and doesn’t worry about how it affects the math.

It’s a concern and we’re right to point it out.

Oh well.

I’m bracing for Cornyn endorsement. Sheesh

Oh sure, we gave him Republican majorities, but the Republicans were mostly RINOs, and they still are. Many here complained about some of Trump's choices for the 2022 mid-terms who were supposedly strong Trump supporters, but they didn't vote for them even though the primaries promoted them to the next level.

We got a slim majority to take the House, but as we are seeing the RINOs are quitting to give control back to the Democrats.

People like Oz for example, were not ideal, but he at least was not a politician, so therefore he might have played ball with the few good Republicans against the RINOs who are nothing but Democrat assistants within the Uni-party.

Trump is thus left with those who hold the power, and he must work with them to work with him, and this time everyone needs to stay on our elected Republicans in both Houses of Congress to make them start to fear the wrath of their constituents more than they fear anything else.

We can no longer remain idle spectators & expect Trump to deliver all of the success on his own. We have to have real skin in the game going forth, and quite frankly I do not see that in a lot of people here or elsewhere.

Absolutely we need to elect better Republicans but Trump should not be immune from criticism, many of his choices for jobs have been horrible and he often gets sidetracked with personal vendettas, like how recent criticism of Jimmy Kimmel and the Oscars, personally I don’t give a damn about either, we have to many real issues we can’t afford to get sidetracked on nonsensical things

Many Trump’s endorsements have been losers as well Dr. Oz and Herschel Walker to name two.

In the end we will never have 100% MAGA Republicans we have to work with all kind of people and can’t afford discarding good candidates who can win versus the perfect candidate that can’t, blaming the voters just doesn’t make sense to me

We just see things differently I don’t understand blaming voters for letting down a politician when it’s the politician’s job to convince voters to vote for them when not enough people vote for the candidate then they failed not the other way around
