Oh, BS!

Not BS, Dugway.

Not at all my good man.

For example, I believe that alcohol is more damaging to society than marijuana. But I would never wish to enact prohibition.

Jesus was right when he effectively trashed divorce. I believe divorce is more destructive than booze, especially to the family. But I am not petitioning the state to force married folks to stay married.

I also believe smoking tobacco is harmful to one’s health. I believe the explosion of obesity is highly correlated with the demonization of, and decline in smoking. In both cases, I disagree with the criminalization of smoking in commercial properties and attempted ban of large sodas in NYC.

The fight against alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, divorce, and sugary drinks belongs in the public square, not the legislature. These are personal choices (I’d be willing to argue more forcefully for the divorce thing but that’s a post for another day). Yes, there may be negative externalities but that’s life: one man’s negative externality is another’s positive externality.

Clarence Thomas got it right, when he wrote about the protests (threats?) from the Roe leak: “We are becoming addicted to wanting particular outcomes, not living with the outcomes we don’t like.”

I admit, I’m an oddity (and yes…look at my posting history and you’ll likely agree) who believes that the right of my fist ends at your face. But those principles underpin America. I refuse to become a leftist and dump my principle to gain safety (and we know how that ends).

Or, to quote Mick Jagger, you can’t always get what you want. It is heartbreaking to see children getting sick and dying. But in the match between parents vs government, parents win every day and twice on Sunday.

THE driving force behind the transition from debate to lawfare is thirst for control. That transition is often dressed up in concern, in love of fellow man, planetary temperature and other fairy tales. Undress that concern, and you’ll find a wife-beater, child-abuser, and similar “you’ve left me no choice but to deprive you of self-determination for your own good” kissing cousins.

It’s not BS at all. It’s liberty vs tyranny.

Your move.
