A black, deaf Google employee – who had been celebrated at corporate events and on social media as a success story for the search giant’s inclusive workplace – has accused the company of discrimination based on her disability and race.
In an explosive lawsuit filed in the US Northern District of California, Jalon Hall — the first and only black, deaf hire at Google, according to Wired — slammed Google for limiting her access to sign-language interpreters months after starting the job.
In the complaint, the worker painted Google’s management environment as hostile and racially charged.
She cited Google’s manager at the company’s machine-learning research program calling her an “aggressive black deaf woman” and advising her to “keep her mouth shut and take a sales role”. Google also excluded her from roundtable discussions and passed her over for promotion due to “inaccurate evaluation” after three years, according to the suit.

At Intel Oregon, we had a crazy muz who had a picture of the Ayatollah in his cube, wanted to know how to buy machine guns and thought Iran should have nuclear weapons.
Every time Intel tried to get rid of him, he claimed discrimination.
I sure hope they got rid of this nut case before he pops a fuse and kills 50 engineers.
I was going to notify the FBI but like now, it could have got me fired.

Case dismissed
If they tired of her complaining all they had to do was walk away...
Ree ReeEEee ReEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
I hired a deaf guy as a systems analyst. Programmed my TRS-80 so I could close caption the classes in Structured Analysis so he could learn. The problem was he couldn’t interface with users to find out what they wanted. Luckily he was a great illustrator, so we transferred him to our art department.
This lawsuit is wonderfully diverse. So progressive!
The blacks aren’t waiting for whitey to come off the “reparations” big bucks. They’re going to get their free money through lawsuits. Legal thievery involving dumbass honky juries.
They deserved that.
I'm sure there are many FReepers with a disability on this site. So it's always important to make a reasonable accommodation so everyone's needs will be met.
To me, she got hired. Maybe she needed training/orientation. So after that, she shouldn't need an interpreter. After all, there is email. And paper and pen.
Unfortunately, it does not look like she is interested in working. Google gave her an opportunity. Her employer is going to think twice about hiring another Black person or a disabled person because they're not going to do the work or they're looking for a quick payday.
Thanks Obama.
Sad. We have brilliant people like Clarence Thomas. You should think more folks should aspire to be like him. But apparently they're not celebrating Clarence Thomas' accomplishments in the community.
Hilarious! I wish I had thought of it.
I worked at a company a very long time ago.
One of my co-workers who was quite black was making fun of another co-worker who was native american.
(we both liked the guy but his genius about being stupid was legendary, I even started drawing cartoons everytime he did something incomprehensible)
co worker said, you know if I owned this agency, I would hire a dozen just like him.... big dumb and stupid.
so a few days later the company newsletter comes out, and they ask us to nominate people for being outstanding.
I nominate Moose, cause that was his name and say “I have heard it said that if I ran this agency I would hire a dozen just like him.”
so they gave him a big award and some money, and got his picture in the monthly newsletter. I feel bad cause it went to his head because he believed his great press.
LOL...DEI for thee, but not for me.
