SHASTA COUNTY, CALIF. — Shasta County Supervisor Patrick Jones says the Shasta District Attorney's Office has refused to take up a case against someone sending death threats to him.
Jones' wife, Lori Jones, called into a local radio station over the weekend, complaining District Attorney detectives were investigating Jones' relation to a controversial ad, but at the same time refused to take up the case against the person she alleges threatened their lives.
When asked, Jones alleged it was a single local resident who had sent a multitude of messages and emails, before escalating it to a call.
“Called up my sister here at my work and threatened to kill me and my sister. The Redding Police Department did respond," Jones said. "They came over, they downloaded probably a thousand emails from this individual who emailed me with all kinds of profane and rude language, and some other threatening language.”
Jones says several weeks ago, he received a letter from the Shasta County DA's office saying they weren’t taking up the case.
When asked for comment the DA's office sent us this statement:
"In December of 2023, a case was submitted to the office by local law enforcement involving allegations of criminal threats made towards Patrick Jones and a family member. The criminal threats were alleged to have occurred in January 2021. On January 8, 2024, we reviewed this case and declined it due to insufficient evidence.
