Passengers were thrown to the roof of a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner during a sudden altitude loss that resulted in at least 50 people being injured Monday on a LATAM Airlines flight.
The plane experienced a technical issue that caused "strong movement" on the flight from Sydney, Australia, to Auckland, New Zealand, according to The New Zealand Herald.
Of the approximately 50 people who were injured, a dozen were transported to local hospitals and one person was left in serious condition. The injuries included broken bones and head and neck injuries, per passenger Brian Jokat.
Jokat said the plane "just dropped" just over halfway through the flight.
Another passenger, identified as Daniel, said the incident was so chaotic it was difficult to tell whether the plane's interior was splattered with blood or wine.

Always surprises me how many people remove their seatbelts once the seatbelt light goes off, even if they are just sitting there.

Those DEI chicks at Boeing would simply laugh at anyone dying on a Boeing airplane and say, “Glad it wasn’t me! So, who cares?”

Time for a little logic.
1. door blew out on 737 MAX. Looks like lack of quality control on Boeing’s part. But also, the airplane was experiencing a pressure problem for a week or so before. Why didn’t the airline ground the plane until the cause could be found?
2. Engine fire on 737. From my experience, a pulsing flame can indicate a compressor stall. Was this a new engine or one that had been overhauled? Don’t know, because the press is too busy saying engine fire!!! on Boeing.
3. Tire falls off 777. New airplane? Most likely someone at the woke airline maintenance didn’t secure the tire correctly. Not Boeing’s fault.
4. 787 quickly drops altitude. How old is the airplane?
was it weather related. Was it a glitch in the fly-by-wire system. I don’t know, but neither does the press. Just was a Boeing. Years ago an Airbus going into Australia, had a fly-by-wire failure that resulted in the airplane diving thousands of feet twice or three times.
I wish the reporting did not use such complex terminology when describing what occurred. Being a layman I'm not quite sure exactly what happened here.
Some on Reddit are saying that the pilot’s controls went completely dark for a few seconds, and then came back on.

In spite of all the PR chaos, if you bought and held Boeing for $120 in 2014, you out performed inflation.
Of course, if you paid $450 a share in 2019 - "All passengers prepare for impact!"

I have talked to several guys who work maintenance for FedEx. All say that apart from the 737 Max issues a couple of years ago, all this recent stuff appears to fall on poor maintenance.
My first thought: Was it a DEI hire that did the work??

I was on a flight years ago when we had an abrupt altitude loss. I had my seat belt on but my arms flew up in the air and clobbered my friend in the head in the seat in front of me. No injuries. We were flying over the Rockies en route to a ski destination. I ALWAYS wear my seat belt unless I need to get up and go to the bathroom.
