What are China’s policies on abortion and birth control?

As they have a totalitarian government, President Xi and his boys can implement policies to deter abortion and birth control, and encourage marriage, if they wanted to do so.

I understand they abandoned the 1 child policy. But how to turn around people’s attitudes about children and family, is a tough situation for them.

A person once said children were an asset in an agrarian society, helped the family, took care of the farm and elderly, in urban setting children are a liability

Ultimate not in my back yard situation, we need people to work, but I’m not going to supply them….

Tried to do my part, 3 children, 5 grandchildren

Varies by the individual, as does everything. Joy in work switches to joy in other pursuits after you retire. More has to do with personality. I’m 79, childless, and LOVE IT! Many of my friends are childless and I’ve not heard a one of them regret it. Of those who have children, our joint interests are outside their homes. And those children they have are now frequently choosing to be childless.

I don’t go all gooey when I see a baby. I DO go all gooey when I see a baby animal. All my charities are no-kill shelters. I figure there’s enough baby lovers out there to support people charities. And good for them.

I wouldn’t try to encourage anyone to have or not have children. I’d always take that as their choice based on their life experience. And I support people’s individual choices.

As they have a totalitarian government, President Xi and his boys can implement policies to deter abortion and birth control, and encourage marriage, if they wanted to do so.

They have implemented standard "progressive" policies we would all recognize - tax breaks for more kids, subsidies for child education, etc. etc.. And on the other hand, just like our own progs, the nature of their system includes 1000 other contradictory schemes which limit family formation, from massive debt, to inflation, to housing bubbles, to government cronyism, to an atheistic/materialist outlook.

The CCP also thinks it will easily overcome a declining population with technology and automation.

But you may be correct - I would not be surprised if they start restricting abortions in the near future.

Childlessness is one of the fruits of feminism.

Weird, why would any woman not want to give birth to a slave?

We see women wanting careers and delaying or putting off marriage and motherhood. We see men not wanting marriage and family.

Same here, don't understand it. The women we see delaying and putting off motherhood, failed in nailing down a career and became depressed aimless middle-aged women without a husband or even a steady boyfriend. And we also see men who abandoned hope of marrying and they became confirmed bachelors with no offspring. They're all depressed and wonder what went wrong with their lives.

We married young, and built a future together to help our kids do likewise, and are happy grandparents. My wife had a great career while having kids, and our grown daughters also have great careers while also having kids of their own. No crazy liberal weirdness in our families is part of the reason why.

It’s part of the ‘lying flat’ movement in China in which more and more younger generations of Chinese aren’t getting married, not buying a house, not having children, or anything else that would result in boosting the Chinese economy.

The Chi-Coms are pushing women to get married and have more children because of the demographic decline of China’s population over the next 25 years it is expected they’ll lose about 110 million people.

By 2080 it is projected for China’s population will be below a billion. By 2100 it could be below 800 million.

India, OTOH, is expected to continue to grow to 1.7 by 2060.

It gets more interesting. Demographers are predicting that the majority of Chinese will be 50 years of age and older. On the other hand, half the population of India will be 30 years of age or younger. The result is that India will have the necessary demographics to crush China in a land war.
