Most unions are. But as I have mentioned elsewhere, union leaders of all types get very upset when outsiders try to bully their members.
So I wouldn’t bet on the union just rolling over here.
The Union head has to come out forcefully against this immediately! Will it happen, I don’t know.

I know a large number of firefighters. These are very independent people. I cannot imagine that they will let their fellow firefighters take any heat for speaking up.
I suspect also, that a good number of these FDNY are black.
In summary, this could very easily blow up in their faces if they go after these people.

If the union cared about the member, they would organize a strike against the state government, James in particular.
