"The government had supported the proposed changes, which would have widened the definition of the family and clarified out-dated language about the duties of women in society."

Referendums to redefine and "modernize" the roles women and the family. "Ultra-conservatives had argued the changes could constitutionally protect polygamous relationships and increase immigration via migrant family reunions". (per the article)

If you want to understand what they were voting for and against, go to this link and look for "THE FAMILY" and "CARE".

An Indian homo as PM. Of course he’s for chain migration. India’s a corrupt shithole that exports their methodologies for creating shitholes.

Talk about TOTAL IDIOTS. How DARE a Western government permit its people to vote on a significant issue! Whoever came up with this IDIOTIC IDEA of letting the masses decide issues needs to be put on trial. After all, how can you have a Democracy when you let the people affected by an issue actually VOTE on it.

What is the world coming to, anyway????

Hopefully their courts fix this idiotic vote.

“Ultra-conservatives argued the changes could constitutionally protect polygamous relationships and increase immigration via migrant family reunions — claims all denied by the government.”

Lies. The Republic of Ireland has no “ultra conservative” cohort of any significance. The Irish voters saw through this. It was a scam to let migrants claim anyone they wanted as a “family member” and exponentially increase chain migration.

Varadkar said the referendums had been "defeated comprehensively on a respectable turnout".
"It was our responsibility to convince a majority of people to vote yes," he said.
"I think we struggled to convince people of the necessity or need for the referendum at all, let alone detail the wording.
"That's obviously something we're going to have to reflect on into the weeks and months ahead."

All that verbiage, but not a word about the government ACCEPTING the results that the people voted for. The government will just keep trying to fine-tune the wording until they confuse enough people to get passed what they want.

The influence of the Catholic Church has indeed waned in Ireland. The moral credibilty of the Church was severely damaged by the perverted behavior of homosexuals within the clergy and the hierarchy. Many especially the young lost their faith. Ireland has now entered an era of neo pagan, hedonistic decadence. Ironic after all the “troubles”, wars and bloodshed over religion during the past four hundred years, the entire United Kingdom and Ireland are united in the same agnostic place.

Varadkar doesn’t sound very Irish . I doubt he has the best interest of the Irish people in his heart

This is good news.

Now send the light-in-the-loafers Varadkar back to his ancestral homeland of India. And kick out all the invading third-worlders the WEFers have foisted upon the country.

Ireland needs to be decolonized. Send the Indian back to his open sewer county of origin

I’m of Irish descent. I don’t recall Varadkar as a surname...

Every major political party was strongly in favor of a Yes vote, backed by the media and all the NGOs. And people wonder why populist movements take hold.

The problem with the Left is they NEVER see a defeat as permanent.

They’ll try again next year.

And the year after.

And so on and so forth until they win.

They have to be continuously kept out of power by voter vigilance, an almost Sisyphean task.

Way to go Ireland. Your Constitution has served you well these many years...no need for changes anytime soon. Keep up the good work!

The Oligarchs are supporting foreign born candidates. They have less patriotism.
