When Shelley Luther announced she was challenging state Rep. Reggie Smith in this year’s Republican primary, some party members dismissed it as a quixotic bid from the former Dallas salon owner, who rose to prominence in 2020 for defying a pandemic lockdown order.
Luther had already lost to Smith in 2022, her second electoral defeat in 14 months. She generated controversy earlier that year for admitting that she was “not comfortable with the transgenders” and complaining that, during her stint as a school teacher, her students could not make fun of their transgender classmates. She also called for Chinese students to be barred from attending Texas universities, sparking bipartisan backlash.
But despite being outspent more than 2-to-1, Luther scored an upset win over Smith in Tuesday’s primary, virtually ensuring she will represent the bright red North Texas district when lawmakers reconvene in January.

Nope. No bias there.
No bigotry there! /s
It’s the Comical. Expected…
Yeah the Chronicle is a leftist, corrupt rag. (Just like Houston)
My local paper.
“...She (Shelley Luther) also called for Chinese students to be barred from attending Texas universities...”
That would get her my vote. Most major universities coast to coast have a thousand or more Chinese “students”. At Auburn, the last count I saw was 1400. Many are nice and polite and serious-minded. But they are all at the mercy of the Communist Party of China who can recall them or threaten their family back home.
When filling out an employment application at Auburn one has to commit to a “diverse” campus. How many Chinese are required for a diverse enough campus? Is 1400 enough? Is 3000 too many? And how many should be from Bangladesh? We have lots and lots of them.
So, the massive Republican vote fraud machine is getting geared up for cheating President Biden out of his well-deserved second term.
Would have liked to see Herrera do better.
I get a feeling the normies are waking up to this mass media bias. I mean anything other than alternative conservative news, all the msm parrots the same anti republican, Anti trump anti white Christian news and I think folks are starting to wonder Why? I did in my college years. I thought so many people vote republican yet all I hear on the news is negative toward them. Let me investigate this more ya know
Looks like the Bush Machine went too far in their attempt to impeach Paxton. Could this be the beginning of their end?
What? Complaining that her students could not make fun of transgender classmates? Sounds like BS to me.
What? No “rightward lurch”?
“ Would have liked to see Herrera do better.”
He did well enough to force a runoff.
I threw a few bucks his way.

My guess is she noted that leftist pigs try to destroy children’s lives over schoolroom taunts.
Yes officer.
The horror, the horror.
I met Shelly through a restauranteur friend during the plandemic. She is a very capable and driven Conservative. Pretty, too.
God Bless Texas
15 of the GOP state reps who voted to impeach Ken Paxton either lost their primary races, decided to retire or face runoffs and most likely going to lose.
Great results for Texas conservatives.
