I don’t understand the need for this law given that Federal law already provides for the detention and deportation of aliens who participate in criminal acts, are a threat to public safety, or violate their visa. We don’t need new laws; we need strict enforcement of the laws that are already on the books. In addition, even if the Laken Riley Act becomes law, it is meaningless as long as we have sanctuary states and cities that protect criminals from the enforcement of federal immigration laws.
If Congress really wants to do something effective, then pass a law that prohibits sanctuary states and cities from directly or indirectly receiving federal funds for highways, transportation, infrastructure, medicare/medicaid, and every other handout.
