Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has dismissed as “totally inappropriate” an idea being floated by Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and other GOP colleagues to place a term limit on his successor.
McConnell, who has served more than 17 years as Senate GOP leader, noted that colleagues have an opportunity every two years before the start of a new Congress to elect a new leader.
And he suggested it would put the Senate at a disadvantage to the House, where the Speaker does not have a term limit.
McConnell also pointed out that Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) tried to unseat him after the 2022 midterm election and lost 37-10.
“Well, we have term limits now. They’re called elections and I had a contest myself during my last election as leader,” he said, deploying the classic rebuttal to arguments for term limits.

“Well...I do like TERM LIMITS we term limit the POTUS....about time we term limit them all.”
I would vote to term limit all bureaucrats before I’d vote term limits for people elected to office, and when I say bureaucrats I mean congressional staffers as well, as THEY are usually who is running Congress - they just move from one former office holder to the one who replaces them.
Point taken..
“But, bur, but what “IF” the voters are too stoopid?”
I think all Dim voters are stoopid, but I can’t outlaw them.
term limit
It is not a magic cure.
how about we try cell phone vote enabled shock collars for these sob’s ?
Of course, elections also allow voters to vote in those who will vote for term limits.
But the bigger solution is cutting down to constitutionality what the government does, and so the power it has—especially at the federal and state levels.

It’s what lobbyists call a gold mine any party is welcome.
Agree 100%. Term limits sound like a “solution” far more than ever possible.
And Congress is not the Presidency. GWashington in term limiting himself was not seeking the same for Congress. The difference is in the different powers and the separation of powers. A “permanent” President I think would be dangerous and more so than has been some of our longest running members of Congress, which has not all been bad.

Misdirecting your ire! Congress loves that! They’re all for other people taking the blame for their actions. Congress votes on the budget. They make the decisions whether to include nonsense in the spending bills. Bureaucrats, staffers, etc may make recommendations but Congress votes on it. It’s all on them. You can pretend it’s otherwise your congresscritter will love you for it!
Donald Trump has proven that you don’t have to be a swamp monster to govern effectively. That is why they hate him so much. Term limits for all “public servants”.
They’re talking about term limits for serving in the position as Minority / Majority Leader…NOT for serving as a senator (though they should be).
I know right. 😁👍. Vote early, vote often.

He always has. That didn’t just start when he turned 70.
I’d favor some type of limit as the longer one is in charge, the more they can leverage their power, blackmail others to support them etc.
I’d bet turtle had enough goods on others to hold his office for years to come.
McConnell should shut up. His time is done.
All Federal employees should be required to take a random drug test every year.
Or the people can recall a Senator thru referendum.
Repeal the 17th.
