"Journalists don't serve the public by trying to predict history's judgments, or to steer society to them," Sulzberger said. "Our job as journalists is firmly rooted in the present: to arm society with the information and context it needs to thoughtfully grapple with issues of the day. The belief that an informed public makes better decisions is perhaps the most hopeful conceit of an independent press."

Newsroom at 'New York Times' fractures over story on Hamas attacks

Too bad it wasn't a "fracture" due to the arrival of an asteroid the size of a small car in the Newsroom.

“...Newsroom at ‘New York Times...”

It’s not a ‘newsroom’, it’s a leftist ClusterFest In A Libricated Sleeping Bag.

When a ‘news’ organization has so devolved that it openly debates the merits of publishing the truth vs. the alternative with ‘opinionated bias’…

…they are no longer defined as journalists (or news, for that matter, I.e, propaganda) and deserve the downfall headed their way.

So, the reason for this is not PC, but it’s obvious. There are a lot of leftist Jews at the NYT. And this conflict is between their PC/DEI hires and themselves. Saying give peace a chance is one thing, the two state solution sounds good to the leftist mind, but of course it’s nonsense in practice, and beyond that, a lot of these leftist Gen Z and Younger Millennials DEI hirers are openly anti-Semitic. This is a problem obviously for the leftist Jews at the Times and in other elite circles in NYC. And these young folks won’t bend like previous generations do because they’ve been taught they are special and only they matter and eff the boomers and the olds and all that. Leftists are reaping what they sowed.

Oh well, at least the NYT crossword is still good...

It would be truly awful if the NY Times became the target of a terrorist attack. Truly awful. Any possibility it could happen?

The major problem for them is that it happened. So one faction is going to claim it didn’t happen (even though they know it did) and the other will insist on telling the truth. So they will fall back on the old “If we tell the truth, it might help our enemy”.

The Times Guild, the newsroom union representing nearly 1,500 journalists at the paper,

There aren't even close to 1,500 journalists at the NYT. I'd estimate the number to be about 5 and they're all worried they'd lose their jobs if they let too much truth slip out. See Tagline.
