My family has roots in an old mill town. I live there today. The day after Pearl Harbor the county sheriff deputized every able man he could find, gave them shotguns, and posted them outside the steel mills. My great-uncle was one of those men.
If this country is to be saved when the next mass attack comes, I suspect it will be saved by the sheriffs, and not by the perfumed princes in DC.

When the leftist Gov. Gretchen Whitmer had the strictest Covid lockdown in place she ordered the Michigan State Police to patrol to arrest any driver or pedestrian who could not prove they were on the way to get a prescription filled or go to an approved destination (abortion center....for “women’s health” exemption... and package liquor store...because abrupt shutoff of booze causes domestic violence). Anyone going to a meeting for a religious purpose would be in violation as all churches and synagogues were ordered closed. Same with schools and fitness centers. Even diagnostic exams and surgery were not allowed.
On WJR radio an official with his voice disguised said: “We are not going to follow the Governor’s order. We have far more helpful things to do to protect the safety of citizens than this.”
Those state police would be possible allies fighting against the leftist takeover someday.
