U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned on Thursday that NATO will be drawn into war if Ukraine is defeated by invading Russian forces.
Speaking at a Republican-led House Armed Services Committee hearing to discuss his recent absence while hospitalized for complications from prostate cancer surgery, Austin predicted that Russian President Vladimir Putin would not "stop" if Moscow wins the war in Ukraine. Austin made the remarks after being asked about Congress failing to approve a $60 billion military aid package for Ukraine, as requested by President Joe Biden. Despite significant bipartisan support for Ukraine aid, the measure has stalled amid a series of partisan disputes over border security and other issues.
"We know that if Putin is successful here, he will not stop," Austin said. "He will continue to take more aggressive action in the region. And other leaders around the world, other autocrats, will look at this and they'll be encouraged by the fact that this happened and we failed to support a democracy."

Your list just blows me away. I wish you could locate one that itemizes what’s left to protect the U.S.
That’s true. Unfortunately, Putin will not take that risk. One thing even the buffoons in DC should realize by now, Putin does not bluff.
If Netanyahu had not been fiddling around in Ukraine trying to curry favor with DC, perhaps he wouldn’t have been comatose asleep at the wheel on Israel’s border 10/7.
Wnat, if anything, is worth “our blood”?
Where should we draw the line, and whose blood are you referring to by “our blood”? I respect the opinions of veterans more than those of civilians.
Please say something that distinguishes you from a Putinbot. We have lots of them on this website, sowing dissension.
Alex, for $1,000,000...for “Laws the Government Will Change In A Heartbeat”
Wat a nitwit. “Democracy”? Didn’t the ukranian comedian ban opposition parties some time back? Also, hasn’t he gotten a couple generations of his citizens killed recently? What a great democracy worth defending.
Hilarious. Canada is part of NATO, too.
He’ll run out of former Republics to retake, then go after the former satellites who are not part of NATO, and when he runs out of them, he’ll fancy himself ready for NATO, starting maybe with Lithuania, then Poland. Hopefully, he’ll die one way or the other before it comes to that, and be replaced with a non-megalomaniac. But hope is not a plan. Wearing him out, or preferably defeating him, in Ukraine, would avoid all that. It’s worth the expense.
My next door neighbor here in Israel is from Russia, and she’s got a son in the Russian army. She has given her middle fingers up to Putin in my presence. Ergo, she didn’t want to send her son to fight and die in Ukraine, either. But Putin didn’t ask for her leave. Nobody will ask for yours, either, when he starts munching away at more of his neighbors, once he gobbles up Ukraine. Ergo, the least bad thing to do is make him choke on Ukraine.
There is nothing that can be done to prevent that short of direct NATO intervention.
It is time for a negotiated settlement before it is too late.
Sending even more of the US and NATO weapons stockpiles into a losing Ukraine conflict makes the US and NATO weaker not stronger and so sending our weapons to Ukraine makes it more likely that Russia would enter into a war with a weakened West, not less likely so Austin is probably incorrect in his predictions.
At this point, it's not about Ukraine winning or losing. It's all about prolonging the war until after the 2024 elections so the American people do not realize how badly Biden, Austin and the Democrats have screwed up.
I think Putin knows that after 30 years of NATO aggressive moves against Russia, they will not stop. I fear the Kremlin thinking might now be, bring it now while the Russian military is at its post Soviet strongest and NATO, well you see the state our rainbow warrior Pentagon globalists have put NATO in.
If you have children or grandchildren ensure you have a potassium iodine tablet for each. After surviving the dark decade following the nuclear exchange it’d be a shame to watch your grandchildren all die from thyroid cancer.
it is beyond annoying that some 2nd world morons (the russians) have managed to hold the world hostage for the last 70 years.
Imagaine all that humanity could have accomplished if the Russians hadn’t stood in the way or enabled so much horror.
“Second world morons”?!? An amazingly stupid view of the situation. If you’d ever get your head out of the media masters’ feeding trough perhaps you’d recognize reality.
“”We know that if Putin is successful here, he will not stop,” Austin said.”
I like that phrase “we know”... the left loves it whether they are talking about red meat, covid shots, global warming, whatever...”
It’s designed to make their lie sound like a proven fact.
Lloyd Austin is just doing the bidding of his real employer -Raytheon Technologies, to drum up additional business for them. Austin was on their Board of Directors and owns about $500,000 worth of Raytheon stock.
I thought he was in surgery.
At this point, it’s not about Ukraine winning or losing. It’s all about prolonging the war until after the 2024 elections so the American people do not realize how badly Biden, Austin and the Democrats have screwed up.
Here’s a thought - we have millions of illegal immigrants - male and fighting age - and can send those folks.
If you make it back alive you can stay and get fast tracked to citizenship.
If it weren’t for stealing nuclear secrets from America and Rocket Tech from Germany, do you seriously think Russia would have been anything in history?
They are and have always been a sad pitiful country of no consequence what so ever.
Dick and Liz Cheney are salivating for more war. Their stock in Halliburton and KBR will go up.
