Adding to the shocking spate of school violence across the nation, a 74-year-old Indiana substitute teacher claims he suffered a gruesome black eye from a teen — and teachers stopped him being arrested.
Shellshocked Rob Gooding, of Indianapolis, told News 8 he was serving as a substitute at Perry Meridian High School on February 1 when an unruly student suddenly approached him during a business class.
The hulking teen — who Gooding claims stood over 6 feet — raised his Chromebook and was poised to crash it down on his head.
“I saw him come up, and he said, ‘I’ve had it,’ and he came down and I blocked the Chromebook. That’s where the hole was,” Gooding said, pointing to a wound on his forearm.
“This man child was 6-feet-2, 280 pounds,” he said.
But the student then shoved the elderly instructor to the ground in front of shocked students and rained down punches on his head.
“He hovered over me and with his left hand whammed me,” Gooding told the station.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and found the dazed teacher suffering from a grisly knot on his forehead and a deep black eye.
Gooding told a school resource officer who arrived with the emergency crews he wanted his assailant arrested and prosecuted.
But the officer told him school administrators forbade him from doing so.
“Then he said to me, ‘We have been instructed by the higher-ups, which is the district, not to handcuff, or arrest the kid,’ and I said, ‘What?’ and he said, ‘Yes, that came from the higher-ups,’” Gooding said.

Hey, mr teacher. Have you eaten too much soy? Call the police ands sue the school system.
Do I need to guess?!
He is 74. It may not be soy, so much as the passage of time.
I am sure that there are plenty of bottom-feeders who would love to sue over this. He might even live to collect and not have to substitute, anymore.
No race mentioned. So clearly black.
“We are disturbed by the allegations involving a Kelly Services employee and student at Perry Meridian High School. Perry Police responded to the incident quickly. A police report was forwarded to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors will then make a criminal charge decision. Due to confidentiality reasons, Perry Township Schools cannot comment on disciplinary action it takes against its students. We can say, however, the district has zero tolerance for violence.”
Note how the district is trying to distance itself from the victim, by citing him as a third party contract employee, and not affiliated with the school.
Nope, not their problem. Not at all...
no State Police in Indiana???
Kid needs to be charged. School officials are not the law.
Any unruly youths who want to FAFO can be permanently canceled on the spot which will divert tax dollars away from incarcerating these losers towards something useful for society.
Take a look at the black eye this teacher received from a student. It’s a wonder he was not blinded. The school refuses to say whether or not the violent student has been or will be disciplined in any way.
Another reason why there is a shortage of teachers now.
First line of defense should be at least a Taser. Second line a good lawyer.
Try not to let primitive impulses cloud your ability to be rational.
the teacher should have the kid arrested for assault. what is wrong with him?
That’s the High School I went to. But that was almost 50 years ago
Try not to let your woke stupidity cloud your inability to be rational.
Perry Meridian School is majority black, followed by Burmese, then Hispanic.
I doubt a Burmese or Hispanic kid is 6 feet 280lbs.
Maybe when he actually kills someone they'll arrest him.
I see a lawsuit in the school’s future. With the LEOs subpoenaed as witnesses for the Plaintiff.
The cop had evidence of a crime. He should have arrested the perp no matter what the school officials said. And, if they balked he should have arrested them as well for obstruction of a police investigation.
In 2014 the “Gentle Giant” Michael Brown bullied and knocked around the small store merchant while stealing cigars. Then he was beating officer Darren Wilson on the edge of his patrol car seat. Wilson said “I knew he was pounding me so hard and he was above me that one or maybe two more punches and he would have killed me.” The guilty perp NEVER said don’t shoot or held up his hands. But women’s TV panels held up placards saying “Hands Up Don’t Shoot.”
Brown was 6 feet 4 and weighed 292 pounds. About to kill a police officer.
I will never forget those women and I will never forgive them.
The police refused to do it, at the behest of the "higher ups" at the school, presumably the principal and superintendent.
