The Spy War: How the C.I.A. Secretly Helps Ukraine Fight Putin
New York Times ^ | Feb. 25, 2024 | Adam Entous and Michael Schwirtz

Posted on 02/26/2024 5:30:53 AM PST by george76

For more than a decade, the United States has nurtured a secret intelligence partnership with Ukraine that is now critical for both countries in countering Russia...

Nestled in a dense forest, the Ukrainian military base appears abandoned and destroyed, its command center a burned-out husk, a casualty of a Russian missile barrage early in the war.

But that is above ground.

Not far away, a discreet passageway descends to a subterranean bunker where teams of Ukrainian soldiers track Russian spy satellites and eavesdrop on conversations between Russian commanders. On one screen, a red line followed the route of an explosive drone threading through Russian air defenses from a point in central Ukraine to a target in the Russian city of Rostov.

The underground bunker, built to replace the destroyed command center in the months after Russia’s invasion, is a secret nerve center of Ukraine’s military.

There is also one more secret: The base is almost fully financed, and partly equipped, by the C.I.A

....

Around 2016, the C.I.A. began training an elite Ukrainian commando force — known as Unit 2245 — which captured Russian drones and communications gear so that C.I.A. technicians could reverse-engineer them and crack Moscow’s encryption systems.

...

The C.I.A.’s partnership in Ukraine can be traced back to two phone calls on the night of Feb. 24, 2014, eight years to the day before Russia’s full-scale invasion.

...

The question that some Ukrainian intelligence officers are now asking their American counterparts — is whether the C.I.A. will abandon them. “It happened in Afghanistan before and now it’s going to happen in Ukraine,” a senior Ukrainian officer said.

...

The C.I.A. and the HUR have built two other secret bases .. combined with the 12 forward operating bases

Facing Catastrophic Consequences New York Times
Now Outlines Construct of Ukraine as USA Proxy Province

February 26, 2024 | Sundance | 11 Comments

I find it very interesting this report surfaces in the New York Times and not The Washington Post first.  This material distinction showcases the motive for the outline is heavily domestic in nature; meaning, the core of domestic USA politics (specifically the White House) needs to admit that Ukraine is a proxy province in order to retrigger support for policy.

[Inside Baseball] – Watch the responses to this report from CNN (State Dept) carefully and watch the responses from WaPo (CIA/Intel).

The more subtle and/or quiet the response(s), the more certain these influence institutions were collaborating on the material report to the New York Times.

The White House is admitting the CIA and larger IC apparatus, which includes the State Dept., has been heavily controlling all activity in Ukraine for the past decade.  The only reason to admit this now very publicly is because they are losing voter support.  THIS EXPLAINS WHY BIDEN IS CALLING FOR A WHITE HOUSE MEETING!!

The US’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) maintains 12 secret bases in Ukraine along the border with Russia, and last Thursday CIA chief William Burns made his 10th secret visit to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

The Times is now reporting the USA (State Dept.) was responsible for the coup in Ukraine (color revolution) and took control over political operations in 2014.   We have long suspected this; many have reported exactly this reality; however, this is the first time it has all been admitted.

(NYT) – The C.I.A.’s partnership in Ukraine can be traced back to two phone calls on the night of Feb. 24, 2014, eight years to the day before Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Millions of Ukrainians had just overrun the country’s pro-Kremlin government and the president, Viktor Yanukovych, and his spy chiefs had fled to Russia. In the tumult, a fragile pro-Western government quickly took power.

The government’s new spy chief, Valentyn Nalyvaichenko, arrived at the headquarters of the domestic intelligence agency and found a pile of smoldering documents in the courtyard. Inside, many of the computers had been wiped or were infected with Russian malware.

“It was empty. No lights. No leadership. Nobody was there,” Mr. Nalyvaichenko said in an interview.

He went to an office and called the C.I.A. station chief and the local head of MI6. It was near midnight but he summoned them to the building, asked for help in rebuilding the agency from the ground up, and proposed a three-way partnership. “That’s how it all started,” Mr. Nalyvaichenko said. Source: The New York Times, based on more than 200 interviews with current and former officials in Ukraine, the United States and Europe.

The report tries to paint various Ukraine officials as the originators of the operation to use Ukraine as the tip of the spear against the Russia construct; however, it doesn’t take a deep weeds walker to realize that part of the narrative is needed to protect the U.S. foreign influence policy from public ridicule.

The White House needs support for their Ukraine proxy.  The public opposition to that continued policy agenda is a problem.  The politicians are caving to pressure from the people.  The IC needs to change the narrative urgently; thus the admission takes place.

It’s a tough pill to swallow, especially for boomer conservatives, but WE are the baddies in all this! We abused our hegemony control and in the name of security and acting as global police have sowed chaos around the world.

Nope. Border wars are hell as Putin and Ukraine are finding out. No one wins, many many die. The fact remains, Russia invaded Ukraine.

Again, would it ring hollow if Russia invaded Alaska? After all we took advantage of Russia when the US purchased Alaska for $7.2 million.

LOOKS LIKE WE ARE DEEPLY INVOLVED. This means We will be sending troops in soon after a made up “Gulf of Tolkien Events.” or a “Sinking of the Lusitania.” Must happen before Trump wins the election—Spring or early Summer—is my bet.
Biden-Obama gets war powers and rally the nation to fight evil Putin for WW III. The question is what will China do? This could get really bad, really fast.

Shouldn’t be hard to find with all that equipment above ground.

Sounds like a fish story for more U.S. money.

“Thank you NY Slimes for once again helping Russia.”

Bravo! to the Times for edifying the American people to the nefarious actions of their Intel agencies.

And exposing the filth.

I am thinking that McConnell’s handler got a not-so-subtle signal just recently, too.

The ugly can come out of the cracks, if we pry it loose.

I don’t envy Speaker Johnson his upcoming extension-cord session with the Biden-$chumer mafia.

If by “we” you mean Hillary Clinton as SOS in an Obama administration, I agree.

We are a worldwide baddie with our embassies proudly flying the fag-flag, too.

I have to go with other’s assessments that the article is a limited hangout to get in front of something very ugly going public.

You want the effing war to stop? Then drill baby drill, make the US the world’s swing supplier of oil once again, oil prices will dip and Russia couldn’t afford the war. Of course that would mean The Straight of Hormuz will have to stay open and Iran sanctions be enforced.

So, refrain from using your sanctimonious tone with me.

"Putin invaded Ukraine."

Justifiably so it turns out.

Look, I feel for you and the pain that you are in. I regret every vote I made for the squalid spawn of the Bush Crime Family. You will get through it.

"The full CIA involvement in the coup that was the 2020 Big Steal is still to be revealed. They wanted Trump out so they could have this war."

Absolutely true. All the political turmoil we've experienced since 2016 has Its origin in the corrupt, CIA controlled cesspool known as the Ukraine.

Your love of Biden's and the CIA's Ukraine con job is disappointing. I think you suffer cognitive dissonance after reading your about page.
