Do you remember when phone service reliability was like 99.89 percent uptime?Yes. When I hired on to Pacific Telephone in 1980, I expected a decent career inside the company. I was part of the huge changes that occurred. Had things remained the same, I might be retired with 40 years. The rapid rise of new technologies and competitors removed the iron clad engineering standards that achieved the 5 sigma reliability. I left Nov 26, 1991 as Pacific Telesis management succumbed to the siren song of fabulous stock prices over competent engineering. I started with my current employer on Dec 6, 1991. No regrets.

Do you remember when you could hear and understand every word, sigh, moan, hiccup without any delay or hesitancy from your phone ? Back when we had full duplex ?
