ATT is currently proposing to eliminate its landline service here in California. Sounds like a great idea. I mean, like, why not?

With all this technological progress, I'm contemplating getting a ham license.

I’ve been getting monthly letters urging me to switch over to something called AT&T Advanced. Half the monthly charge, free nationwide long distance, same phone number, etc, etc, But when I go to the website to look at the details it looks as if I have to plug my phone lines into a new device that pretty much works like a cell phone. Cell coverage here is spotty at best. But I’m thinking sooner or later it will no longer be voluntary.

Had had a land line in over 15 years. Never think about it.
