Trump Must Pay Half a Billion Dollars Before He Can Appeal New York Decision
Breitbart ^ | 02/19/2024 | JOEL B. POLLAK

Posted on 02/19/2024 1:35:33 PM PST by ChicagoConservative27

Former President Donald Trump must pay nearly half a billion dollars as a bond to New York State before he can appeal the ruling by Judge Arthur Engoron last week that he must pay $354 million in fines — over $450 million, with interest — for fraud.

Critics have noted that Trump is the only person ever to be sued under an obscure New York fraud statute that does not require any harm be done, and that effectively criminalizes the everyday practice of real estate valuations in negotiations with banks.

Though Attorney General Letitia James — who ran for office promising to target Trump — claimed that no one is above the law, her case against Trump marks the only such case in the history of the state. And the staggering fine is likewise unprecedented.

Tired of losing? No appeal, no reversal. Heck, I’m not convinced an appeal will overturn the decision.

Isn’t the judgement lower than that?

I’m reminded of the old saying “You can’t fight city hall”. That’s what this is on steroids. New York has made the rules and decided to crush someone they don’t like and they’ve made it a rule that their victim cannot object. No legal recourse.

Heck, I’m not convinced an appeal will overturn the decision.

Neither am I—After all, Engoran never recognized or respected the last appeal.

Praying that PDJT has a few very loyal and magnanimous friend who might chip in and can also be willing to offer a number of properties for collateral toward loans . . . . . .

As a last “resort,” I pray he doesn’t have to mortgage Mar-a-Lago, Bedminster or Trump Tower.

What an abominable Banana Republic!!!

I read earlier that it includes potential interest. But how can this happen, and Trump not have the ability to sue the court, judge, and/or prosecutor if this is slapped down? The judge made the penalty so high it would potentially prevent Trump from appealing. I so hope Trump’s justice department goes after these people and bankrupts them.

Agree...If he is on the hook anyway, why go to the trouble/expense to appeal?

Essentially they want A 100% escrow deposit before they will hear appeal.

Screw NYS. Appeal this to the SCOTUS. This is just another ground to do so.

I bet Trump Tower could house hundreds of illegals. Save the suites for the ganglords.

Yup. Saves Trump a step in the appeals process.

Let’s be honest. Trump will never have to pay. It’s his heirs who will, unless he lives a really, really long time.

Why would he do that if that’s more than the fine?

If the appellate court in NY would take the case.
