The Real History of the War in Ukraine
The Kennedy Beacon ^ | 7/17/23 | Jeffrey Sachs

To help the public move beyond the simplistic narrative of Biden and the mainstream media, I offer a brief chronology of some key events leading to the ongoing war.

January 31, 1990. German Foreign Minister Hans Dietrich-Genscher pledges to Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev that in the context of German reunification and disbanding of the Soviet Warsaw Pact military alliance, NATO will rule out an “expansion of its territory to the East, i.e., moving it closer to the Soviet borders.”

February 9, 1990. U.S. Secretary of State James Baker III agrees with Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev that “NATO expansion is unacceptable.”

June 29 – July 2, 1990. NATO Secretary-General Manfred Woerner tells a high-level Russian delegation that “the NATO Council and he [Woerner] are against the expansion of NATO.”

July 1, 1990. Ukrainian Rada (parliament) adopts the Declaration of State Sovereignty, in which “The Ukrainian SSR solemnly declares its intention of becoming a permanently neutral state that does not participate in military blocs and adheres to three nuclear free principles: to accept, to produce and to purchase no nuclear weapons.”

August 24, 1991. Ukraine declares independence on the basis of the 1990 Declaration of State Sovereignty, which includes the pledge of neutrality.

Mid-1992. Bush Administration policymakers reach a secret internal consensus to expand NATO, contrary to commitments recently made to the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation.

Amazing how pro-Putin shills keep digging up this discredited BS. Bakers statement was in regard to the former GDR after German reunification which resulted in a treaty -"Treaty on the Final Settlement with Respect to Germany"

Gorbachev said in an interview. There was NEVER any promise given about NATO expansion of countries past Germany. In fact he said it was NEVER even seriously discussed.

Gorbachev-The topic of “NATO expansion” was not discussed at all, and it wasn’t brought up in those years. I say this with full responsibility. Not a singe Eastern European country raised the issue, not even after the Warsaw Pact ceased to exist in 1991. Western leaders didn’t bring it up, either. Another issue we brought up was discussed: making sure that NATO’s military structures would not advance and that additional armed forces from the alliance would not be deployed on the territory of the then-GDR after German reunification. Baker’s statement, mentioned in your question, was made in that context. Kohl and [German Vice Chancellor Hans-Dietrich] Genscher talked about it.

Can’t escape the REALITY that United States is more bankrupt than by BIL who has already declared bankruptcy twice.

I have no dog in this fight except future of my children and grand children who will carry the debt burden.

Lots of historical details documenting the duplicity of the ruling elites in Washington and Brussels.

So which treaty did Washington break with Russia/Soviet Union?

List of treaties Putin violated by invading Ukraine:

UN Charter 1945

Nuclear NPT 1970

Helsinki Accords 1975

Belovezha Accords 91–92

Budapest Memo 94

Black Sea Fleet Treaty 97

Friendship Treaty 98

Treaty on Azov Sea & Kerch Strait 03

Border treaty 03

Karkiv pact 10

Putin even broke a treaty he personally signed with Ukraine, the 2003 “Treaty Between the Russian Federation and Ukraine on the Russian–Ukrainian State Border”. It set Ukraine’s borders as they were in 1991 & was lodged with the UN.

It’s nice exposing how morally bankrupt Zeepers are, as they constantly shriek that it’s OK to lie to people as long as you don’t put it in writing.

What will be the future US spending guarding NATO countries against a Russian attack, instead of supplying the weapons now to Ukraine, to teach the Russians once and for all to stay within their borders?

How old are you? Businesses rely on contracts, countries use treaties to ratify agreements.

Russian attack on USA motherland is only in minds of most despicable American Neocons.

We have US troops stationed right now in Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Romania, etc.

40,000 American troops deployed to Eastern Europe in response to the invasion, and in total, there are now approximately 100,000 American service members either deployed or permanently stationed in Europe in support of our NATO allies

Soldiers deployed to Latvia, in the Baltics, receive USO Care Packages filled with familiar snacks as a small reminder of home.

--- "Let the EU pay for their own party."

USA -- 335-350 million people. EU -- 450+ million people. Whole of Europe, to include non-EU nations -- 700 million people.

The idea that the US, the smallest of the three entities above, should pay a large share of and provide for the protection of the EU is ludicrous.

Additional, Russian Federation -- circa 145 million people.

When 700 million people, or 450+ million people cannot protect themselves against the far smaller population, the question is NOT will the 335-350 million protect us?

It is: why won't the EU or Europa as a whole defend themselves?

The simple answer is: free money. They want someone else to foot their bills. Why not? As long as some sucker is found to foot the bill....

Russia does not want common border with NATO.
PLUS history of genocide of Russian speaking people in Ukraine. Russia is not drowning in debt like United States. We have selfish, greedy & stupid leaders.

The more they take over other countries the more they would get common borders with NATO. Genocide of Russian speakers?!?!? I van take your nose out of Putin propaganda.
