The controversy over the recent conference in Jerusalem, "Settlements Bring Security and Victory," which called for the creation of Jewish settlements in Gaza after the war, indicates how complicated the issue is even within Israel. The conference was attended by several ministers and coalition members of Knesset.
Despite differences of opinion with Western nations like the United States, Israel still has good options for how to proceed after the war. However, first Israel has to finish the war; and do so in such a way that would be able to actively plan for 'the day after' in Gaza, without the Hamas terror organization at the helm.

I think that both parties have to be interested in peace in order for such a thing to happen. For the most part, the Muslim Arab nations surrounding Israel have NOT been interested in peace. The "palestinians" as they're called... have flatly REFUSED peace offers, as well as two-state solutions several times over the past 15 years. Yet, now currently... because of the MSM, most people are now aware of the cliche slogan, "From the ocean to the sea!" Unfortunately, a good many people don't understand what that means.
However, moreover all of this, there's a conflict (or war) described in Psalm 83 which identifies the aggressors of Israel as those people groups (nations) immediately surrounding Israel. However, quite some time after that Baruch (Ezekiel's scribe) writes in Ezekiel 38 of the Gog/Magog invasion and actually describes the state of Israel at the time. It's described as a "...land of unwalled villages..." "...who are at peace, living securely, all in places without walls, bars or gates."
WHEN in our lifetimes have we EVER known that description of Israel to be a reality? The answer to that of course is NEVER IN OUR LIFETIMES!
While it's not written out in great detail, the contrast between Psalm 83 and Ezekiel 38 show that "something" happens which render those nations immediately surrounding to be NO THREAT... whatever happens, renders them to where in Ezekiel 38, they're not even given an "honorable mention".
The Muslim Arab nations surround Israel don't want peace. They're going to keep pushing, and eventually, they'll put Israel into a position where Israel is forced to act unilaterally and then we'll have something such as Isaiah 17 being fulfilled... and probably more.
That's just my theory. :-)

Can't the same be said of Israel; especially under Netanyahu?

I agree many are unaware that the slogan "from the river to the sea" is used by both the Palestinians and Israelis, albeit for different audiences and different goals.
For the Palestinians the the slogan is "From the (Jordan) River to the Sea, Palestine will be free".
Since 1977, the Israeli Likud Party's manifesto has been: "Between the sea and the Jordan there will only be Israeli sovereignty.”
And so, the 57 year old Six Day War continues .....

Israel simply cannot live with a knife at its throat like Hamas.
The only permanent solution I see is the forced relocation of the entire Palestinian population from Gaza and the West Bank as far away from Israel as possible, like population movements in Eastern Europe after WWII. In fact, this is what should have been done in 1947.

The 57 year old Six Days War continues... pretty much...with the exception of Egypt, and that seems “fragile” sometimes.
