Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) says he will be involved in the Senate Republican primary in Montana to help businessman Tim Sheehy, who now faces a challenge from Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.), win the GOP the nomination.
Rosendale, who ran and lost against incumbent Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) in 2018, announced his candidacy last week, even though former President Trump has endorsed Sheehy and Senate Republican leaders in Washington view Sheehy as a better candidate for the general election.
“We will be involved in the Montana primary,” McConnell told The Hill during an interview in his Capitol office, confirming he will help Sheehy.
He views Montana as one of several promising opportunities to capture Democratic-held seats and thinks Republicans have “a good shot” to win back the Senate majority.
McConnell said he doesn’t plan to get involved in the competitive Republican primary contest to challenge Sen. Sherrod Brown (D) in Ohio.
And he praised Army veteran Sam Brown, who is running in Nevada’s Senate Republican primary against former state Assemblyman Jim Marchant, as a “good candidate.”
McConnell said the Nevada primary is on his “watch list.”
“In the end, you spend the resources where you think you can win and Nevada has been a pretty close, competitive state,” he said.
McConnell’s support for Sheehy may signal that two politically aligned outside groups, the Senate Leadership Fund and One Nation, could spend resources to help him win the nomination.
The Senate Leadership Fund and its umbrella group, American Crossroads, have already reserved nearly $50 million for the general election race in Montana.
SLF, a super PAC, has reserved $24.6 million in airtime in statewide TV while America Crossroads has reserved $23.3 million. The ads are scheduled to air starting on Sept. 3 and go through Election Day.

It looks like McConnell wants a Republican Senate at this juncture.
In a proper functioning democratic election, McConnell’s endorsement should be the kiss of death. He is the most unpopular politician in the nation. Yet, he controls a lot of special interest money. Funny that.
Well not like actually going to Montana involved, but as in bringing a few bushel baskets-full of cash involved..

I wouldn’t want anyone he endorses. He is a good universal negative indicator of where your support should go.
Sheehy is embracing MAGA in his ads and is former military.
IMO, a politician is presumptively corrupt or at least not somebody who puts America first.
The presumption can be rebutted with clear and convincing evidence to rebut the presumption. For now, until that C&C evidence is forthcoming, I’ll root for the businessman unless it turns out he’s a RINO as well.
He didn’t want one the past three elections including the GA runoff elections.
McConnells involved with Montana election? Of course he is. He works to make certain the senate stays in democrat hands. A smattering of Kentucky voters vote this creep in year after election year and he’s in charge of the entire senate

If the Old Crow supports someone, it is a given that the candidate has pledged to support the Old Crow once elected.
Doing what? Seriously? Collecting bribes? He’s mummified.
The only way McConnell will help Sheehy is if Sheehy is a RINO
